Disassembly of Savage Model 67 Pump

I'm looking for the disassembly instructions for my Savage 12 ga model 67 pump.

Why do that? Well, back in my uninformed youth, I "cleaned" it with WD-40, only to have it gum up the works. Now I think the best approach is to disassemble it to give it a really good cleaning, then not repeat the same mistake in using WD-40. It's a nice old shotgun with no rust to speak of, and I've had it since I was about 12, so I'd like to make sure it's still in good shape inside and out.

I know there are several books out there, but I can't find any that cover this model. I have good tools, punches, etc., and have disassembled other guns, but I hear this one is a bit tricky.

Anybody done this before?

Thanks for the tip. I printed out the earlier post and will give it a try. I also looked into the book you mentioned, but couldn't find a reference to the Model 67.

If you want to try and clean it without totally disassembling it, get some Powder Blast. I think I bought mine at Walmart, but lots of gun dealers carry it. Remove all the wood and spray the crap out of the insides with it. Then, use compressed air to blow it dry. Add a little lube back to the works and put the wood back on.

There are numerous "names" and "model numbers" that are all based on the same basic design. Look at the Savage Model 30 and see if that doesn't look like your gun (on page 346 in my copy).

The 67 has the barrel threaded into the receiver, right? Just drop the trigger assembly and blast it with GunScrubber. Then lube with CLP.

As an aside, I'm so glad to see that you're interested in preserving your model 67. It's a bang up shotgun well worth your effort.

so has anyone actually taken the barrel of their 67? I've been trying to take the barrel off of mine and i cant get it. should i just put some oil or solvent in the parts where it attaches to the gun? is the barrel threaded onto the receiver? what barrel would i buy if i wanted to shoot clays with it? i have a slug barrel on it right now. what barrel would i want from numrich?http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Products.aspx?catid=760
