disassembly of a Glock magazine

Is there some secret trick I haven't been let in on? I can't figure out how to get the baseplate off my Glock factory magazine. The baseplate has two notches that fit tabs on the magazine. I've tried working two screwdrivers in each side to try to get the baseplate to slide off, but nothing's working....

Any ideas?

In case you're wondering, I'm trying to install a Pearce +1 fingertip extension on my Glock 27 magazine.

You can use a thin screwdriver, or a steel punch. Insert tool through hole in base plate, and with the end that’s inside toward the front of the magazine then just push it forward. Note screwdriver must go in at angle and at least 1.5 inches. Once you get the knack of it will be as easy as pie.

Use a golf tee to push in the hole in the baseplate. It won't scratch up the mag. Also, once you've got it in, I use a flathead screwdriver to pry the baseplate off.

I have always had good luck by pushing the button on the baseplate up into the body with whatever was handy and then pressing the back corner of the baseplate against a hard surface (kitchen counter top). I used to do it the hard way with a bunch of squeezing and prying but those things pop off real nicely with the right amount of pressure.

A Glock armourer showed me the way the armourer's course teaches you to do it; basically, the way that ryucasta describes it, using the Glock disassembly tool. Push the tool al the way down through the hgole in the baseplate, tipping the internal floorplate towards the front. Then, you just pry the florplate off towards the front. No muss, no fuss, and you don't hack your hands or magazines to pieces.

Thanks for the tips. I finally ended up sticking an Allen wrench in the bottom and prying with a screwdriver until the baseplate popped off the rails. I was just afraid I was going to mess it up doing it this way. Guess it didn't really matter, since the extension I was putting on took its place anyway. The extension slid straight on, but if I ever want to get it off, I guess I'll just have to pry it off the same way, huh?

Thanks for all the responses.

Follow AndABeer's advise. That's what I do.

The base should not pop off! It should slide along the rails.
