Disappointed in the Trijicon VCOG

Anyone seen this?

Sure, it's nice, but Trijicon's ace in the hole is lack of battery reliance for illumination - that's what sets them apart from others. I could see them abandoning tritium as they did, sure (that never made much sense anyway), but to abandon fiber optic illumination is a fail, IMO. There are many many similar true 1x-on-the-low-end optics in that that (heavy) weight range, not to mention quite a few cheaper than the $2,200 or whatever these are going to cost.

There's just too much competition from so many makers on variables that do the same thing. The whole raison d'etre is the ingenious fiber optic illumination that Trijicon has always incorporated into its optics. Again, it's undoubtedly quality - but even a $330 Burris has the reticle that is black even when your batteries are dead like this VCOG.

And as for FFP, it's nice, sure, but you don't need FFP to get the "best of all world reticle" - it doesn't have to expand with magnif - the Burris MTAC series shows that the outer circle is like an Eotech dot on a SFP sight, and yet has a precise aiming point *regardless* of magnification.

I'm disappointed. It'd be worth saving for if it had fiber optic illumination and no stinkin batteries.
