What is Directed Fire?

Directed Fire is the ultimate political weapon in the war against gun control.

It is the easiest, least expensive way to preserve your Second Amendment freedoms.

It is a simple, painless way to control your legislators.

It is heavy artillery you can use on gun-grabbers.

Historically, the gun control battle has been waged in the media. Television, newspapers, radio have all shaped public opinion on the issue. Unfortunately, the media has an extreme anti-gun bias that prevents fair and accurate reporting on the gun control issue. Media giants, like Time-Warner, no longer even bother to deny their bias against guns.
Because the media is so antigun, the only way to be heard as a group has been through organizations formed to promote the interests of gun owners. The NRA is the standard bearer in this category. Other groups have been powerful allies in the fight, including Gun Owners of America and the JPFO. Of course, the main way that you can help these organizations is by sending money or volunteering your time, and you are strongly encouraged to support at least one of them.
Unfortunately, representation by one or more of these groups is not sufficient to win the war against gun control. These groups are essentially armies in the gun control war. They are large, powerful... and cumbersome. Not every mission in war is suitable for large armies, and there are some things that just work better when carried out by smaller groups. I'm talking guerrilla warfare here. Special Forces. Seals. Green Berets. Force Recon.
Just as an army can be identified and targeted, so can large groups be targeted by antigun forces. If we leave our entire representation to groups like the NRA, then we lose our voice anywhere the NRA is neutralized or fought to a standstill. Some representatives won't listen to the NRA simply because it is the NRA. When Chuck Schumer goes off on one of his wildly irrational rants about "Cop Killer Bullets," do you think he cares that the NRA condemns his deceit? No.
So how do we hit this kind of target? How do we take the war against gun control to the front door of every Congressman and Senator and beyond - right down to the local city councilman?
Directed Fire.
The simplicity of Directed Fire is that it doesn't rely upon the press. It doesn't rely upon an organization at all. It's agile, quick, effective and can be targeted in a matter of hours. It's effective against the Feinsteins, Schumers, Boxers and Kennedys of Congress right down to the city councilman who's jumped on the gun control bandwagon. Directed Fire is impossible to ignore. It costs little if anything and takes only minutes a week to implement. Here's how it works.
"Directing" Directed Fire
Every Congressman and Senator has at least two offices - their local office and their office in Washington. These offices are staffed by people who work for the representative. Their job, in part, is to take calls from constituents - that's YOU - and summarize your comments for their boss. This tells the representative what he needs to do if he wants to be re-elected. A representative ignores phone calls like this at his own peril. Why? Because the people who call representatives simply to voice their opinions are also the people most likely to take the time to vote. And that's what representatives across the board are most concerned about - getting votes so they can stay in office.
That's where Directed Fire comes in. There are some 60 million gun owners in the United States. There are 535 representatives in the House and Senate. What would happen if just 1% of gun owners called the local office of just one of their three representatives (one Congressman, two Senators) each Monday morning to discuss gun control? Do the math. 600,000 people making ten-minute phone calls to the offices of 535 representatives. That's over 11,000 minutes of phone calls per representative - enough to engage a staff of 23 people for a period of 8 solid hours. The term for this is "switchboard meltdown." Clearly, the effects are even more devastating when brought to bear against "local" politicians. Imagine the mayor of Niceville getting 4,000 phone calls because he's hinted he might favor gun control!
And what does it cost you to bring this awesome firepower to bear?
A single 10-minute phone call once a week. Even if you have to call long-distance, that's less than a buck a week to back down the evil people who want to take your guns and disarm America.
Get the picture?
If you're interested in helping turn back the forces of gun control and can contribute just 10 minutes a week to do it, you can help deliver a message that can not be ignored.

Why Monday?
Some of you have wondered why we chose Monday morning for the Directed Fire barrage. Actually, there are two reasons.
First, we chose Monday because we want the representatives to think about the dangers of gun control all week long. What better way than to start their week with 1000+ phone calls urging them to act in concert with the Second Amendment?
Second, we know that as time goes on, it may become impossible for you to get through on Monday morning. No problem. Just try a little later. Monday afternoon. If the phone is busy all day Monday, try again on Tuesday. You see where this is heading? If Directed Fire is successful, some of the more recalcitrant representatives may find that their phones simply don't work any more. That's okay. Maybe it will help them get the message.
The Target
We want the very idea of more gun control to be absolutely unthinkable to any elected representative. We want them to know that the very idea of voting for any kind of gun control is suicide. And then, in November, 2000, we want to turn out every antigun representative and senator, small town mayor, big city representative and governor who is running for re-election. Our goal is to so thoroughly eliminate antigun representatives that:
1. There will be no more antigun representatives in office, and,
2. No representative will ever consider voting for gun control again. Ever.
Clinton hates the NRA. The reason is pretty clear. His early efforts at gun control galvanized the NRA membership like no other issue had in years. Through active campaigning and targeting of antigun congressmen, the NRA achieved something that had not occurred in decades - a non-Democrat majority in the House of Representatives. Clinton never recovered. The rest of his presidency went up in smoke... gun smoke.
In 1994, a lot of antigun Congressmen found themselves without jobs, including the Speaker of the House (the first time a Speaker had been turned out in over 100 years!) ThatÕs a good start. Now it's time to finish the job. What happened in 1994 is nothing compared to what will happen in November, 2000.
It's already true that most Congressmen are afraid to vote against the Second Amendment. It is the ultimate goal of Directed Fire to ensure that by January 1, 2001, every representative is terrified to vote against the Second Amendment.
Final Note
There is one more thing you can do to protect your right to keep and bear arms. This one is easy - and fun! Making a ten-minute phone call isn't such hard work - but if you do it, you should reward yourself - and score more points for the right to keep and bear arms. So... Find a person who is sitting on the fence about gun control and take them shooting. Nothing will win converts faster... and it's fun to do. This may be even more important than the Directed Fire phone melting campaign.
One fascinating analysis of the voting process will tell you why this is critical:
People and Percent for Victory (POV)
100%, all people. POV = 50%, plus 1
70% eligible to vote (excludes aliens, felons, and minors). POV = 35%, plus 1
40% registered to vote (approximately 60% of eligible). POV = 20%, plus 1
20% vote on election day (50% of registered voters). POV = 10%, plus 1
7% almost always vote Republican
7% almost always vote Democrat
6% swing votes. POV = 3%, plus 1
Ê
You may think that you can't make a difference in who wins elections... And you would be wrong!
We don't have to convince everyone. If we reach just 3%, we can run the gun-grabbers out of town on a rail.
That's why the most terrifying thing you can do to an antigun legislator is take someone shooting. Ever wonder why some people are afraid of guns? The answer is pretty simple: They don't understand them. People's fear of the unknown is always greater and less reasoned than that which they understand, so our top priority ought to be to ensure everyone has a chance to shoot a gun.
Let's bring the "swing" voters into the pro-gun camp! The easiest way to soften up an antigun position is with PRO-gun facts (of which there are plenty), but the best way, and the most fun way, to win over the undecided is to let them see for themselves.
So spring for an extra box of ammunition, make sure you have hearing and eye protection for your guest, be on your very best behavior, remember that YOU are responsible for making sure that the new "recruit" has a safe, enjoyable, exhilarating experience. Teach them... and have fun doing it.
For sheer joy, there's nothing like watching them light up the first time they put a bullet through the X-ring. Those who used to sit on the fence will soon be buying guns of their own, carrying concealed, and wondering how anyone could be so insane as to think gun control could increase safety.
These are not people who will vote for gun control. One more thing: Your friends who are shooters, but who haven't been to the range for awhile? Take them along. Remind them that if they do nothing else, this November they must vote to preserve the Second Amendment - or be prepared to surrender their arms.
It's already happening around the world, and now, in California, so don't delay... go to work!
