Direct chamber loading of a Taurus 92? Can it screw up the gun?

Hey guys my brother asked me if he could direct load the chamber of his Taurus 92. I'am not sure is what I told him. I have done it to my Beretta 92 many times. Is it safe to do to a Taurus? How close is his Taurus 92 to my Beretta 92 as far as design and parts?
Thanks,45automan

You can do it but...

it can lead to premature failure of the extractor. The extractor is designed to have the cartridge slip underneath the hook when fed from a magazine and not "snap over" the rim cartridge. If the latter is practiced, given enough time, it could theoritically lead to work hardening of the extractor and subsequent failure of same.

I suppose you can "do it in a pinch but not as a practice."
