Dilemma S&W M13 or SIG P226...which one to buy?

I just ran across two great deals on classic guns. A 4" S&W M13 .357 for ~$325 or a West German SIG P226 9mm for less than $375. Both pistols are shooters not safe queens. They are cosmetically in good condition but mechanically excellent. The classic "carried a lot and shot a little".

I already have a West German P226 (plus three other 9mm pistols), but do not have a 4" K frame .357. I have several K frame .38's in 4" and 5" lengths, plus two N frame .357's, so I'm really not lacking in that department either. I guess I just like getting a good deal I plan on buying one of these (in a perfect world both!), so any input would be appreciated.

Seems like you are a man who knows what he likes. Most people thrash around going from this to that looking for that sweet spot. You apparently know where yours is. :D Since you already have the P226 I would vote for the M13. The balance of a 4" J Frame is just about perfect. Is this an older Smith pre-lock?

I'd go for the M13

The M13, especially since you already have a P226. But then, I'm looking for an M13 myself, so......

No question. Model 13. Smith dones not make em anymore. Best handling revolver going. And yes the model 13 is a prelock model. They were discontinue before internal lock revolver were made.

Good luck,

Get the Model 13. Unless you can get a pinned and recessed model 19 for that same price, anyway

Old blued Smiths are AWESOME! There will always be Sigs around, but the nice K-frames appear to be getting picked over (my 19-4 looks like it just came out of a box, got it for under $600). Just my $0.02

M13 or P226 - The M13 wins

I just happen to own one of each of these.
You should get the M-13!
If you don't have an M13 yet you are missing out on some very fun shooting.
Get some good ear plugs and have at it.

Only one important note.
Stay away from the 110 Gr. and the 125 gr. ammo in the M13 .357 magnum. The hypersonics may possibly cause damage to the barrels forcing cone. (Barrel can not be replaced)
This info is not completely or absolutly verified, but enough comments have been made to place concern over the ammo put into one of these guns.
If you want to load it with the 110 or 125, use it for PP only, not range work.

A Sig P226 for how much?

West German SIG P226 9mm for less than $375

Wow, that seems like a great price for a Sig P226 even if it were used. You could buy it for that price and turn around and sell it for a quick profit, but I think you'd keep it once you used it. I love mine

I ended up buying the S&W M13-3. The best part is that I ended up getting it for $295 And yes, pic's will be forthcoming. Thanks for the input!
