Different CCW for different environments Pt. 2

I know some people like to focus on one single "all around" carry gun or one primary and a "bug" while others have different guns for different situation.

In this thread I would like to focus on people who have different carry guns for different activities during your normal everyday activities. I am asking "who has different guns for the gym, shopping, going out on the town, etc?"

I personally carry a Colt Officer's Model or a .357mag S&W m60 90% of the time for my daily carry.

For the gym I carry a Walther PPS because it is slim, light, and fits in my waist pack for the gym easily while still leaving room in the front pouch for my cell phone, iPod, keys, etc.

When we go out and I am dressed a little nicer with less options for cover garments I carry my Rohrbaugh since it is easily concealed. If that is not an option, or I am feeling lazy, I carry my Seecamp LWS380 in a wallet holster.

Interesting thread you have posted here. I have always carrie my colt 38detective special for my ccw. As of now, Most everything else that I have would be to big to carry as a ccw. I am though going to get me a xd40 subcompact for my ccw somtime in February. I have a p22, but I don't use it for ccw. So far my detective special has been a "One size fits all environments."
Once I get my subcompact, I will move my detective special to my calf as a back up.

Kahr PM9, S&@ 360 PD, and, Detonics Combatmaster.

360PD is the only real pocket gun. I'd like to have a 22lr Beretta, if I could legally buy the old 950, in Kali.

I have a Ruger LCP (.380) that is always in my pocket. If I have pants on, I have my LCP. My Primary carry gun is a S&W M&P 9mm compact with a crimson trace laser grip carried inside the waist. I carry it about 95% of the time. I have a Taurus model 605ss2 (.357 mag.) also carried inside the waist. I carry it only about 5% of the time. I guess the reason for not carrying the .357 very often is because I love my M&P. My .357 also doesn't have the advantage of the crimson trace laser grips and it makes one hell of a BANG when firing .357 mags through a 2" barell:eek: It would definately kill the bad guy, but would also reak havoc on my eardrums. I also have a Ruger P89 that I no longer carry since buying the M&P. It is a wonderful gun, just not for ccw. It's a tank!

I dont have a huge selection of handguns (yet) but I do have few different rules for CCW that I try to follow:

1. If attire is for work or likewise (dress shirt, tie, pinstripes, etc) I use a tuckable IWB holster at 1 o'clock and carry my P239.

2. If Im wearing jeans and a t-shirt (or my favorite camo cargo shorts:D) I usually go with my G23 IWB at 4 o'clock.

3. With a coat, jacket, hoodie I have found that I like to carry either gun IWB on my left side for a cross draw. I feel like I have quicker access this way.

No real method to the madness... I just like to switch it up on occasion. My next purchase is going to be something I can pocket carry, so that should expand my options a bit...

During the day I carry my Para Ordnance "Big Hawg" .45 ACP. At night I carry my FNP-40 because it has night sights. As soon as I get the time and cash to have some Trijicons thrown on the Hawg it'll be my primary carry both day and night.

Sorry PBP, for the cut and paste response...but I said it how I felt it:
"I carry my PM9 98% of the time. It's in my pocket now, 9:40 PM Christmas Eve, in my "home office" (junk room).
But occasionally, living on a lake, with snakes plentiful for 2-3 months a year, when I'm out with the dogs, etc., I carry a S&W442 with alternating shot shell/JHP's.
When I cannot carry a gun due to dress or...something...I carry a Seecamp 32.
I practice with the Kahr a lot; the 442 20 odd rounds per range visit and the Seecamp almost never.
All three are pull, point, shoot...though I practice reloads with the Kahr..not so much with the 442 and don't even own a spare mag for the Seecamp.

So I'm good 98% of the time.. "

New Stuff....What I didn't say is I am trying hard to incorporate my CS45 into my EDC routine. Sweet pistol, barely too large for pocket carry...but one of my favorites.

I have a carry "battery" ... reasons being...

bedroom gun... ( wife's ) Taurus 8 shot 4" barrel 22 magnum tracker... reason being, I have several large aquariums in the bedroom, & I don't want a caliber large enough, fast enough, or powerful enough to break the aquariums from the concussion alone of being fired in a small room ( I'd suspect that the "explosion" of up to 6 large aquariums would be a big distraction to my wife in an already stressful situation )...

because of the layout of our home, ( & the doggie alarm system ) I would expect to be engaging someone in the house, long before they get to our bedroom... upstairs ( main floor ) single shot shorty Contender carbine in .410, if I feel I need to break it out, otherwise in my right hand would be my 90% carry gun, which is my S&W 5 shot air lite 44 special L Frame ( it's the gun I'm most familiar with, & shoot the best, & it has fiber optic sights )... I'd probably grab my Witness 10 mm as a back up...

...because I live in a rural environment, & work in a realitively small town, that light weight 5 shot 44 special is my 90% time gun... I can substatute my J frame air weight 6 shot 32 H&R mag if I'd like... I also keep a CZ 9mm compact & my full sized Witness in 10mm for trips to the big town, where I'm more likely to encounter conditions requiring more than 5 shots to protect myself...

I also have a NAA mini for those times that really any gun is too much to cover & yet I'd still want "something"

the stainless Ruger GP-100 is my truck gun & never leaves it... always ready to dispatch on skunks, or oher farm yard vermin, or if I felt the need for for protection against the 2 legged variety while in my truck...

I've got my "usual" carry battery that goes IWB... an SP101 and an XD9, one or the other.

Sometimes, though... I can't conceal an IWB pistol and have to step down in firepower.

My only two choices when that happens are a S&W 642 .38special @ 16 ounces, or a FEG PA-63 in 9x18 makarov @ 21 ounces.

I find myself preferring the PA-63 over the 642 since it's thinner and carries more rounds.

90% of the time...

...I carry my SW 642 shrouded hammer in a Milt Sparks pocket holster. When I am in the out-of-doors hunting or other activities, my carry (just as a bug) will typically be my Sig 239 9mm, Sig 232, or my SW model 60 5"bbl, depending on the circumstances.

I went on 10 month buying spree of handguns and holsters trying to find a ccw setup that would work for me 100% of the time. What i ended up with are about 4 set ups that I use quite a bit. Any time possible i carry my pt1911 with crimson trace grips in a kuhl leather holster bought off ebay, (one of the best 30 bucks i've spent). This probably only works about 40% of the time, the colder months. If that won't work i picked up a rock island compact that either sits in a crossbreed sob or when the body shows up a comptac mtac. in the crossbreed as long as i'm standing up right it disappears even in a t shirt but anything but standing is a problem. so in the comptac mtac right now is a cz 75 compact, which will get benched for the rock island when it shows up. The last resort summer carry is a kahr p40, its light enough i can clip an uncle mikes to pair of basketball shorts and be on my way. the kahr and the rock island pretty much split the remaining time the pt1911 is at home. Switching between the 3 or 4 guns doesn't mess with me too much, as their controls and ergonomics are all more or less the same. Also when i'm out shooting in the middle of nowhere i like to alternate the guns, shoot a mag out of one and then a different one. I've always been equally accurately with all of them.

ccw New york

I am taking my ccw class next week. After i receive my certificate I have to write a letter to the judge stating why I want a ccw permit. People are telling me not to put certain things down cause it will get denied. Any Ideas???

Welcome to The Firing Line, I think you would get more responses in a new thread.

You may want to find out what reasons have been stated and accepted in the past. You know why YOU want to carry, but you have to play the game...

With hope your ccw instructor will have some good reasons that have worked before. if not you may want to find another instructor who knows the system better.

70% - G39, for everyday CCW.
20% - SIS ULTRA, Mostly weekends. Trying to CCW more.
10% - MK40 Elite, Newest to my CCW trio. This % will probably go up, because it is very tuckable.

90% IWB
10% OWB

I am waiting for the P380 to be pocket CCW 100%.

Normal
60% Kimber UCDP .45, OWB Don Hume JIT Slide.
30% HKUSP45C, OWB Don Hume JIT Slide
10% Glock 26, OWB, Uncle Mike's Kydex, primarily for biking at night.
KelTec P32 as BUG to all of above

Vacation in rural areas
Colt Delta Elite in OWB NRA Slide, soon to be replaced with Glock 29 in OWB Galco M7X Matrix.
P32 as BUG

Workouts are given BUG as primary. The P32 goes in the back pocket for running in the park, and stays in the locker at the gym. If stolen, it is the firearm I can most afford to lose. The P32 is also the LEAST I carry when going out to a function, if carry is allowed.

Yes, circumstances determine what and how I carry.

I keep a Ruger SP-101 in my car at all times. I find that this satisfies my carry needs for the most part, as I don't spend a lot of time wandering around in public. If I want to bring it with me when I leave the car, I just clip it onto my belt via its FIST clip-on holster.

Now that it's winter, I strap on my GP-100 when walking the dog.

When I'm gunless, I put a 2-oz. can of Fox pepper spray in my pocket.

Pocket carry for leisure or spring/summer work carry = Smith & Wesson Airweight .38 hammerless

Winter work carry = Springfield XD-45 or Taurus PT-145

Under a shirt not tucked in = Taurus 605 in .357mag

BUG = .380 AMT Backup DAO

own, and wear

I have fourteen handguns I wear for daily carry.

Currently I'm carrying a NAA 22LR mini, a Taurus PT22, and a Springfield Armory (custom) 45 ACP 1911; my bed-bag gun is a 40 S&W 1911 from Springfield Armory.

Tomorrow might be different.....
