Differences in M&P Models (Standard, Pro, Performance Center)

Thinking of an M&P, but not sure what the differences are in the models between the standard, pro, and performance center. I can figure out the differences easily seen with the eye (barrel length, some have ports, come are optics ready, different sights, etc.). What I really want to know is do the pro and performance center models receive any different fitting of the barrel to the slide (like the PC1911 models do vs. their standard SW1911), or is it more about the features than how the pistols are fit?

Also, I've heard the triggers in the PC1911 are better, but for $200 - $300 more than a standard model it seems like one could do better with an APEX kit on a standard model. And, I've heard the newer standard models have a much improved trigger (is it true that if the serial number starts with H it should have the updated trigger)?

Thanks for the insight... just trying to figure out what's what with the different models.

I have M&P 9mm, 9mm compact, and 45. The 45 has an Apex trigger. It shoots great. The two 9's have factory triggers and they shoot fine. The reset on the 45 is a little better but I have to pay very close attention to really notice it. I don't know what level shooter you are, but I am just the everyday guy that shoots at the range to make sure I can keep folks off the porch if I had to.

I would not spend the extra money for refinements that I really don't need.

My PC Shield had a better trigger than the regular Shield sitting next to it on the shelf, and fiber optic sights, and a ported barrel.

I am still deciding whether I like or dislike the ported barrel. I have to do some more comparison shooting against the XD(s) and the Walther PPS M2, to find a winner.

And winner gets a good IWB holster.

I like the PC Shield a lot and if I decide I don't want the extra noise of the porting, I may install a non-ported barrel. 'Cause plugging the ports would be a cast iron bitch of a job
