Difference in side saddles

I have been wanting to get a side saddle for my 870. I was wondering, other than price, are there any differences in the side saddles (Tac-Star, Wilson Combat, etc.)? If so, what is the best one out there? Thanks in advance for any insight.

I think that they are the same. I remember seeing early models, in the early 90s, with elastic loops instead of the molded plastic. They are probably the same, I have used Tac Star in the past and been satisfied. If memory serves me right, I thought I saw Butler Creek marketing side saddles a few gunshows ago.
The good news is that you can have sidesaddles in 4 and 6 round configurations.

Ditto what fed168 said. Not much difference. The Tac-Stars are a few bucks cheaper, but both models come in 4 and 6. I actually just ordered a 4-shot Tac Star for an 870 I wasn't willing to modify. With the longer barrel on, it's used for bird hunting, and I like the full length fore end.

Actually if you buy the Wilson, you might find out that it was made by Tac Star. When I was buying on a few years ago from Brownell's there was the Tac Star and a "name" brand that was a few dollars more.

I decided to go with the "name" brand and when I got it, it came in a package witht the "name" brand. When I started looking closely I saw some very small raised lettering on the plastic shell holder part. When I looked closer I saw that it said Tac Star.

The next time I needed one for my 11-87 Police I just bought the Tac Star and saved the few bucks.

Anyone know?

Just picked up an 870P with wood. Is the wood too long for the 6 rounder, or do the Police models use short wood forends too?

Thanks, -Coop

Coop: Pull the forearm all the way to the rear, if any of the wood extends over the receiver you need the 4 shot model unless you are willing to cut the forearm with a dremel or hacksaw.

You should be fine with the 6 shot model. The non-police guns have forearms that extend over the receiver 1+".

I think the main difference is that the TacStar unit attaches with allen-headed bolts and the Wilson unit mounts with slot-headed bolts that have shoulders that prevent overtightening.
