difference between Ruger P89 and P97

Assuming that I have the model numbers right(they should both be 9mm), what is the difference between the 2?

You're probably referring to the P-95

The P95 is the newer 9mm pistol, not the P97. As far as differences go, aside from the obvious frame differences - with the P89 having an alloy frame and the P95 having a polymer frame, the P89 does have a slightly longer barrel and sight radius. Having both pistols, I would say that the P95 feels more natural in my hand (after putting Hogue grips on the P89 and P95) - but that is totally subjective and you should see which one feels better to you. Accuracy from both of these pistols are about the same for me. Also, the P95 should be a bit cheaper than the P89.

Also, the P89 uses a swinging link lockup system versus cam and block lockup. The P95/97 series is also slightly smaller in length.
