hey i just got a ruger blackhawk and im interested in getting a holster for it. Im looking on Midway USA and, well i dont like the look of many of the holsters. However on the few that i do like some are lined and some are not. there tends to be a price difference there, with the lined holsters being more. What does a lined holster mean? do i need it? etc.

Thanks

An unlined holster is made of one piece of leather with a smooth outside and rough, fuzzy inside. A lined holster is made of two pieces of leather glued with the inner sides together so that both the outside of holster and inside of holster are smooth leather surfaces. Thus lined holsters use more leather and require more time/effort; so they cost more. I strongly prefer lined holsters but that is a personal preference. Some holsters are lined with suede but I prefer smooth leather linings. Open or closed muzzles are again personal preference. Each has its pros and cons. I have no preference and use both.
