If referring to No.4 rifles, it is a difference in the trigger which in the Mk.2 is pinned to the receiver rather than the trigger guard. Both types are capable of giving satisfactory service. Surplus Mk.2s today are usually in good condition as few of them went to a war. Many of the earlier models were later converted to Mk.2 standard.
