I'm looking for anyone with experience reading the .300 aac (blackout, whisper). What brand and model die set do you use? I've been finding mixed reviews on all brands. I will be using new brass, and loading barnes 110gr bullets.
Hi. The brand of die set doesn't make a lot of difference regardless of the cartridge being loaded. It has nothing whatever to do with accuracy.
Partial to Redding or RCBS dies myself. The latter mostly for the warrantee. The former because that's what was in the shop when I bought 'em long ago.
I have Hornady's 300 Blackout/Whisper and the RCBS standard 300 BLK die sets. Both form .223 brass perfectly and size fired brass perfectly. I would recommend either set. I've seen no need for small based sizer dies with 2 rifles. The RCBS die set that taper crimps might be nice if you load lead bullets a lot but I think it has a small base sizer die in that set plus it's said to work well with progressive automatic presses. Hornady's seater die with sliding alignment sleeve works well but they use a common sizer body and the lock ring is at the very last few threads in my Co-Ax press. Still seats bullets well though. Some have reported Lee's sizing die doesn't "form" cases correctly but no experience myself with Lee dies. I can only recommend Hornady and RCBS sets as I have both. With any 300 Blackout die sets I highly recommend a case headspace gauge set to measure the amount you push shoulders back especially when forming cases from .223 brass. I have Hornady's Headspace Gauge set which works with your calipers.
Im with beretta professor i like lee dies. Ive been using them for 6 years never had aproblem with them plus i like their factory crimp dies. Just my 2c.
I borrowed a set of Hornady dies when I first got my .300 Blackout. I hated them and I was glad I borrowed a set because Honady was at the top of my list.
I bought a set of Lee dies and I've been very happy with them. I've been loading for the .300 Blackout for about a year now and I'm as pleased with the Lee dies now as when when I first got them.
I'd say my die collection is about 1/3rd Lee and the rest RCBS. The lee dies aren't as fancy as RCBS dies but they work well...
MidwayUSA has .300 ACC Blackout dies, and they stand behind their products. As noted above, however, any dies from reputable manufacturers should work fine. I use Lee and RCBS dies, but I've also used others with good results.
Here are Lee, RCBS, and Hornady within $5 of one another:
