The other day I was waiting for my wife at the market, so I started reading "National Enquirer." I was surprised to see an article that a gentleman in his 60's was shot in the neck just below the base of the skull with a .45. Appears he was shot at near contact range with the round exiting the left side of the neck. He woke up in the woods where he was dumped and had the wherewithal to drive some 6 miles to some help.

Appears that he is doing quite well and is testifying against the man who attempted to murder him. Comments?
 
I'd be very dubious of anything that appears in "National Enquirer." It's only a small step above "The World" and "The Star."

Thats one step below about a case of a guy surviving a direct hit to his head with a mortar shell while in Vietnam (shell didn't explode) :eek: I guess those steel pots were effective :D
 
dunno about those stories...

Buddy of mine was a Deputy Sheriff in S.E. Texas...went to the station with him and there was a pic of a dude who got shot in the mouth with a .38spl-bullet was lodged in his upper teeth.

Have read about .45 hardball ammo 'skating' around someones skull under the skin and having to be cut out later.

When I was doing EMT training in the Nav, they showed us all sorts of cool videos.

One was a guy with a 1-inch steel bar rammed in, can't remember if it was through, his head. They cut off the end and he lived for another 15 years.

Another showed a tree trimmer who'd had a tree nearly fall on him. Unfortunately, a branch didn't miss. It was shoved diagonally, through the right side of his neck, and down into his chest. He was coherent, but short of breath. He lived.

Still another showed a failed suicide attempt. A guy apparently tried to blow his head off with a shotgun, but only blew his face off, literally. If you draw a line from the middle of your jaw to your forehead, that area forward was missing. He was conscious and responsive. When they rolled him over, his eyes slid out to his ears. We were told he lived.

Saw a TLC episode of "Life in the ER" where a guy came, via ambulance, with a bullet hole smack dab in the middle of his forehead. As he was being wheeled in, you could hear doctors and nurses saying things like, "this won't take long," and "he's a gonner." He was shot by something small, like a .25 acp or .32 acp, and the bullet only penetrated into his sinus cavity. He walked out of the hospital the next day.

The human body, on occassion, can take some serious damage.
 
When I was about 17 years old an acquaintance talked me into driving him someplace so he could "straighten out" a problem he was having involving the money for a couple of pounds of pot.
I waited outside this joint for a little while until my friend dashed out with a bloody towel wrapped around his neck screaming for me to drive him to the ER. I was happy to oblige him since I wasn't doing anything else at the moment.
He had been shot at near contact distance with a .45. A through and through shot that left him with two big scars on each side of his neck - right where the bolts would go if he was Frankenstein.
Don't ask me the details, but essentially he had been shot through the neck without damge to the spinal cord or apparently any major arteries or veins. I wouldn't believe this myself but I was there.

EXTRA Survivor Story: Breast Implant Saves Life


Millions of women get breast implants for cosmetic reasons, but we found one bombshell model who says hers actually saved her life by deflecting a bullet! EXTRA has more on the beauty and the bullet in this bizarre EXTRA Survivor story.

It can reduce a four by four to splinters and even tear through a cop's body armor. But now the most deadly handgun ammunition in the world has finally met it's match in a bizarre showdown with Jayne Pickering's bulletproof breasts.

"The bullet went in here and came out right there," she describes.

Jayne, an australian swimsuit model, probably wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for a secret weapon she was packing in her bra. The 27-year-old beauty was dancing at a sydney nightclub when a gunfight broke out between two men. A 45-calibre armor-piercing bullet, commonly known as the cop killee, had ricocheted off a wall and struck Jayne in the chest

"I felt blood. I saw blood, but it didn't click i'd been shot," Jayne recalls.

Jayne was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors discovered that to their amazement that she had been saved by her silicone breast implants which prevented the bullet hitting her heart. Yes, those same controversial implants that have ironically been blamed for killing other women

"I believe if i hadn't had the implants i would have lost my life," she comments.

The bullet entered one side of Jayne's left breast and went straight out the other side without even damaging the silicone. And Jayne was right back modelling swimsuits again, gratefully bearing two small scars and a d-cup that truly runneth over.

It seems there was this lady who wanted to commit suicide. she had comtemplated it for a long long time. She wanted to know what was the fastest way to complete the job and with the less amout of pain.

she finally went to a shrink and after a long long discussion he could not talk her out of it. His suggestion was that she placea a loaded .357 magnum under her left breast and pull the trigger.

The woman went home and did exactly that. Unfortunatley, she shot her left knee cap off.
