Did Something I swore I would never do... New Sig

Well I did something I thought I would never do again. I bought a new Sig. I was out running some errands and stopped by the local shop and there is was in the counter staring at me.

A Full sized P320 in 45 ACP. It was price right and asked to take a look at it. The box said it was built on Sept 2, 2015. I double checked the trigger and it is marked on the inside with a #2 which means it is updated adverse trigger which is supposed to cure the trigger slap some people have experienced. I double checked that the price was correct and then after a little bit of fondling I pulled the trigger.

It has standard contrast sights and came with 2 10 round mags. Medium grip module is on the gun. I might try the small down the line but even with my smaller hands the guns fits well. Smalls are out of stock everywhere. Sig and their vaporware... LOL It is my understanding that the P227s 14 rounders will work in this gun. Might have to look into that but for now the 10 rounders will work. One thing I don't love is the $40 mags but I can add more over time.

I do not have access to the range this week because my truck is on loan to a friend so he can transport a car so I could only shoot a few mags in my backyard setup where I mainly just test reloads. I don't like to shoot too many rounds because of the noise but a few rounds down the pipe is ok.

Only fired 20 rounds but the trigger felt good. It is a little heavier than I expected at 6lb 8 ounces on an avg of 5 pulls. It is smooth and does not have too much creep and resets nicely. The take up on the trigger is short. Shorter than the PPQ IMHO but then the trigger pull itself is heavier. I should be able to hard prep this trigger and shoot it accurately and at speed. Something I could not do with my PPQ M1 in 9mm.

I shot at a steel target so can't really talk about accuracy but at 15 yards it rang the steel with a nice center hit each of the 20 rounds. Once I am able to get to the range I will post my thoughts on it against paper targets but with its sight radius and barrel length I do not think that it will be the weak link in the chain.

Take down is simple. Don't need to fire it like you do a Glock. No specifics in the manual on where to lube it but anywhere metal rides on metal is always a good school of thought. IMHO I did not remove the fire control mechanism but will do that later this evening. Overall I am pretty happy with it especially at the price I paid! ;)

Nice purchase. I picked up a P320 Compact 9mm in FDE, in July for a great price, they are nice pistol. Nicer then my old Glock 19.

I've been looking at these too but will be a good while before I can get another gun after I recently sprung for a 3" GP100. My LGS has this same model for under $500+sales tax but I think I'd rather have the compact maybe with the Sig night sights as well. Still right around 6 bills after tax which is about the same price as a Glock 30 with standard sights. So yeah, tempting.

One thing about the 227 mags. I know I read somewhere recently (sigforum.com?) about a guy who got it to work but required some mods either to the mag or the gun. I'll see if I can dig that up.

Not a huge fan of the Siglite night sights if I add nights to this gun I will go with the Trijicon HDs. So paying less for the contrasts made sense for me.

Interesting he had to change the mag springs. I wonder how long that will last. I guess I will stick with the 10 rounders for now.

Nothing wrong with Sig
One of my favorite pistols is my Sig P 320 Compact 9 mm,
Shoots like a dream, one of the best striker fired pistols I own
I think you made an excellent choice
Shoot it and enjoy it

Nice pistol, congrats. Sigs rank right behind CZ and just in front of M&Ps in my world. I'm rethinking the p320 thing since I've had the opportunity to shoot a compact 9 and sub 45.

But I must admit, the new sig 10mm would be nice also.:D

P320 is superb

The P320 is a great gun. I have the fullsize/ medium grip in 40 cal n there's nothing I would change on it. Probably one of the best firearms I've owned, n I've owned plenty. Aside from the Sig quality n accuracy, this gun disassembles so easily n safely that you don't mind cleaning it after every range trip. SIG...when it counts

I shot the gun today and it ran great. Ate everything I feed it and accuracy was very good. I only shot at 7 and 10 yards and then some steel plates at 20 but when I did my part the gun put the bullets where it should.

I shot my 230gr reloads which I load with 4.9gr or HP-38. They are a good plinking round but not necessarily dialed in for accuracy. I think with more trigger time I should be 90% on steel plates at 50 yards which for me is great.

I really liked the trigger. It has some take up so it's break is not as clean as say the PPQ but when it does break it is clean and consistent. It feels more like snapping a carrot vs breaking a candy cane to borrow Geissele's description of their SSA AR trigger. This allowed me to get a good hard prep between shots allowing me to track the front sight and break the shot accurately. This should allow me to run the gun accurately at speed.

I did however have one issue. The slide did not lock back on am empty mag a few times. I know many people report activating the slide stop/lock on Classic Sigs with a high 1911 style grip but this has never been the case with me but with this gun it is.

It happened when I fired the gun at speed. I know that it was me because when I slowed down and made sure I was not riding to high it locked back 100%. This might be deal killer for me. I plan to see if I can train my way out of this. There is ridge just under the slide stop. The way the grip angle is for me at least my hand tends to ride up just a bit above it putting preasure on the level. I am not pushing it up but I believe I am putting just enough pressure on it to prevent it from moving up when the mag is empty.

I think I am going to put a small piece of grip tape there so I have a tactile spot/place marker on the frame. I think that will help me keep my hand off the lever. Only time will tell if I can make the adjustment and if the adjustment is worth the work.

This was the only flaw in an otherwise great range trip.

That's odd because I always felt my PPQ had more takeup than the P320, but the P320 had a heavier break.

To be honest I have not shot a PPQ in over a year but my memory seems to tell me it did not have as much takeup but I could be remembering wrong. I do remember it had a very clean break to it. The P320 break is heavier which is not necessarily a bad thing.

They may be closer than I am remembering. The PPQ always had a two stage sort of feel to me that may be skewing my memory.

One day I hope to see what a tuned P320 feels like.

The more I mess with it the more I think the takeup on the Sig might be cleaner/shorter but the break on the PPQ is crisper which I think is clouding my already foggy memory. LOL It is hard to remember exactly how a trigger felt/feels compared to another gun when you no longer have it in your possession. I can remember the overall feel but the tiny details get lost. :(

If this thing continues to shoot well for me and I can get my hold right and not have it lock back on me I might send it off to Bruce.

I recently bought one on impulse. I saw it in the LGS and fondled it. The medium grip felt good in my hand. Trigger was probably one of the best I've felt for a plastic gun. I bought it.

That afternoon I took it to my shooting spot. Surprisingly accurate. I can shoot it almost as good as my 1911. For grins I shot the FBI pistol qual and got a passing score.

My only issue was a few FTF with cast SWC loads. No problems with FMJ or duty HP ammo.

I like it. I would have no problem carrying it if I could find a duty holster to fit.
