Did S&W ever make a 3" 64 with a red ramp FS?

I saw a pic of what looked like a S&W 64 with a 3" barrel. It was called a .38 Special, and it has a pre-MIM hammer and trigger, which might mean it's a 64-5 or older.

It also has a red ramp front sight, and I've never seen a pic of a 64 with a RRFS.

Did S&W make a few of these or was it probably something a previous owner had done? Would a non-factory RRFS detract from the resale value?

Could be. The factory would do it for a department order. Lots of gunsmiths used to do it also. But I don't recall seeing very many fixed sight Smiths with a red ramp from the factory.

Based on the odds, I would guess it was added later. But, if it's well done, I'd consider it a bonus.

Edit: it's hard to tell from the picture but, it looks a little long and shallow for a factory insert.

Only to a serious collector, or someone trying to get the seller to lower the price.

The only way to know for sure is to get a "factory letter," which in this case would be a waste of time and money.
