Did I pay too much for my used super redhawk?

I just picked up a used ss super redhawk with 7.5 barrel. It has new hogue rubber grips and an ansco aimpoint scope. I paid 489.00. This was the first one I've seen so I picked it up. The used gun market in Mass is brutal since you really can't buy many new models anymore. I checked the gun for about half an hour and I couldn't find any problems with it. It was clean and tight. There was a TINY space between the cylinder and the barrel which I was told was normal. The da trigger pull was sweet. The scope was just a bonus. I don't even know how to use the thing. Any suggestions? Was it a good deal?
I probably should've asked all my tfl brothers before I bought it but I didn't want to let it get away on me.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Did you get that at Village? I had my eye on it! No, you didn't pay too much by any means. That had the best double action trigger I've ever seen on a Ruger. Congrats. I've had one on order at the Gun Room for a while, probably never get it.

Given your description of your market area, it sounds like as good a deal as you'll find.

How to use it? Well, first cock the hammer... :)

I'd sight in for zero at 75 or 100 yards, depending on what you plan to use it for. After that, whatever the red dot is on is what suffers.

I generally use a Weaver stance for pistol shooting, if that helps you any. It really helps tame the .44 Mag, particularly with hot 300-grain loads.

I think you did very well. I have an early production Red Hawk and it has the best double action I have ever seen on a Ruger DA revolver.

Hey Malpaso,
Its a small world. I did buy it at village gun. I was beginning to think there were no other tflers close to worcester. This is the first gun I bought from village. I usually buy from the gun room or alpha arms in Milford. Village has a great selection along with reasonable prices. Have your experiences with them been satisfactory? What ranges do you go to? I am looking for a good place to shoot.
Thanks

Sounds like a very good deal to me. Did they also have the original grips for it? The original is just as good if not better than any aftermarket grips IMO. Time will tell if the Aimpoint can take the pounding. The small cylinder gap is normal. It should be anywhere from .005" (tight) to .010" (loose).

Speaking of Worcester MA, I've just invested $379 (+tax) in a splendid LNIB Kahr K9 today, made in Worcester MA. It is a very slim piece, fitting my hand like a glove, and the DAO trigger is very good. Think I did ok on the price. Sorry, MMM!

Sorry, Jeepster, but here in Colorado, you'd have paid way too much. I'm sure that Mass. has your guys buy the "raisins" there, so who knows. Who cares? You've got a great gun. Send it off to Bowen or someone in the same realm and make yourself a real hottie if you want.

jeepster - I've bought a couple of guns from Village, as well as The Gun Room. The employees at Village are great, although the owner is kind of a dick. He used to be quite knowledgeable years ago, but is out of touch thesedays. Fortunately, he leaves the counter work alone. On the other hand, the owner of The Gun Room is one of the nicest and most knowledgeable guys you'll ever meet. Pricing between the two varies. I got a better deal on a 1911 at Village, but a great deal on an AR15 at The Gun Room.

I shoot at both Westboro R&P (indoor) and Southboro R&G (outdoor). E-mail me and we can get together.
