Just bought a NIB Blue Taurus Model 85 locally for $250. It was made in 1986 and is trully NIB. Box, paperwork, warranty card etc. Everything is perfect, even the box. #'s on box match gun too. Checkered wood factory grips too. NO LOCK! :D I wanted to give a Taurus a try since I have never owned one.

I get the feeling I overpaid by $50. What do you guys think? Is it more valuable to the masses with or without the lock? I hate the lock so I wouldn't have bought it if it had one. Opinions?

I haven't a clue as to the value of a Taurus revolver.
But what would you do if some stranger here told you that $250 was more than it was worth?

I just do not understand internet price checks. There are so many variables as to time and location. So what if somebody says they were cheaper 500 miles away 2 years ago? That doesn't matter here and now. Only if you are looking for a common current model and have a dealer willing to handle the order for a low fee is it worthwhile doing remote shopping for a little lower price.

I don't think you will find a book value on a NIB older gun. Book values are for used. I recently traded my M85 stainless in. It was a 1993 model in excellent condition and the used book value was $200. I think you did OK at $250 for a NIB. The good thing is that you can still register the Taurus in your name at their web site.

The warranty and the lack of a lock are the main factors in me buying it. I see NIB current production models going for the same $ when you factor in shipping and transfer mine was a hair cheaper. I am always on the hunt for a deal and I get the feeling it's a fair price from what the others are saying.

Just picked up a LNIB Bond Arms Cowboy 45LC/410 2.5 with an extra 44 Mag bbl for $335 out the door. The Bond was more like a steal vs deal since the 44 Mag bbl alone is worth $150-$200.

The way I look at it now, if I want it, and the price looks good to me, then in my mind I paid exactly what it's worth :).

Now, I also have some books that I use to get a GENERAL worth price and will know if someone is trying to hose me :(.

And I also realize that gun shop owners have to eat also :D.

if you are happy with it then good, if not I'll take it off your hands in exchange for a green chile cheeseburger and fries, heck I'll even throw in a lifetime of eternal gratitude and friendship.....either way you win :D
