Did I let the big one get away? Help!

Ever since shooting a friends H&K P7M8 a couple of years ago I've had the urge. At the past 5 or 6 gun shows no one has had any P7s for sale nor have any of the local gun shops. All online stuff has been upwards of $ 800-1,300.

However that all changed today. Saw a very nice "used" P7M8 in the original box (with matching serial #) and two magazines along with the original papers. The slide was a sort of deep bronze color and it said made in Germany. Price? $589.

Like a dingbat I didn't get it. Why? Not sure yet. But there is always tomorrow.

Do you think that it was a good price and should I have gotten it? At a gun show last year there was a H&K USC 45ACP for $750 that I didn't buy. Saw one today for $1,300.

Thanks,

Ouch. You're not likely to find another P7M8 for that kind of money. Around here, you're lucky if you can find a refurb for $700. They are very much in demand, and those who own them usually don't get rid of them.

I really think you should hold out.

Another poster here suckered a pawn shop out of one for ONLY $250, IIRC.:p

Seriously, even for a refurb, that sounds like a great deal. You can always play dumb though, and hesitant. Maybe they'll do an even better deal.:D

STOP. Do not buy that gun and tell me where that gun show is.

Seriously, I have a few P7s and if you don't buy that one, I will even though I don't need or really want another one. That price is too good to pass up. I do wonder what the cirumstances are for that low a price. Ask the seller why he's selling it (do not mention the price).

Man, you guys are killing me with these responses. I was hoping for something like, "no, it's not really a good deal because the P7s have really gone down in price". The only reason I can think of the price is that another dealer friend of mine told me that thousands of P7s from law enforcement and or military have recently been released onto the market, thus driving down the price. I have no idea whether this is true or not.

My initial thought was to get the gun no matter what and then if I didn't like it to turn around and sell it for the good price of $700. :D Sounds like a plan to me.

Well, if it hasn't been sold already, by this evening I will be the proud owner of a new P7.

Any ideas as to why the slide is the color it is?

Thanks for all the help guys.

The refurbed law enforcement M8 trade-ins I have seen from $650 (a while ago) to $900. Some, like mine, have a reddish tint to the slide's finish. This really hasn't concerned me as the M13 I had bought NIB years ago has a similar color. However, my other M8 I purchased from current production not too long ago was totally black like the frame.

Got it! :D

Tax, title and license = $640.00. The seller told me that a new one would cost around $ 750. I actually don't think the guy knew much about the P7 because I have never seen one new for that much. A gunsmith friend checked it out before purchase and said that it was like new.

The gun is not a LEO or military refurb. It was some individual who didn't like it. Boy am I glad that he didn't like it.

The slide says OBERNDORF / N MADE IN WEST GERMANY and the other side has an eagle with what looks like BMB 318 between it's wings. Does this have any reference to production or anything? Apparently it was made in 1992 because there is a 11/92 stamped on the slide as well.

It has two magazines, original paperwork and serial number box.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the purchase and can't wait to shoot it tomorrow.

Thanks for the inspiration guys. :D:D

Sounds like you got a good deal!! I'm looking for a P7 to go with my P5. Then I want to get the P6 (Sig 225)!!!!

Are you sure it's not 92/11? Europeans put the year first. mine is 96/07. If you want to learn all about this weapon, check out the guys over at www.parkcitiestactical.com and click on cult of P7. As for the brown slide, many of them turn that color with time....it will be explained if you do a search of "plum" or "Brown"

Don't shoot: Thanks for the links, they were great and answered several of my questions. Some of the markings are still a mystery to me but hopefully I can figure them out soon.

The 11/92 is exactly that way and sits right next to the eagla with the 318 inside of it's wings. That symbol is also on the frame. And another one is on the barrel but the number inside the eagle's wings is different.

From all the prices I've seen mine was a good deal. A side benefit is that my wife likes the thing and wants to go shoot it. So I might not get in too much trouble for buying it. :)
