Did I do the right thing?

A few months ago, I traded my 44 Magnum Ruger Vaquero and 5 boxes of 240 grain ammo for a Glock 22 with 3 high capacity mags.

The Ruger had had some work done on the springs and had the lightest hammer and trigger I have felt in my life. It was better than a new Colt Python that I used to think was heaven.

The Glock was barely a month old and had all the original stuff (except the owner's manual).

Between the gun and ammo, I had about $400 invested in the Ruger. I traded for the Glock with no extra money changing hands.

Did I make a good decision? I love my Glock and I am so happy I got it but I miss my Ruger at the same time. If nothing else, I have the consolation of knowing my best friend went to the dealer right after me and bought my Ruger for his own collection.

Yes, I would say you made a good move.

I advise you though to use only high quality factory ammo in your Glock. Others may say they get by with reloads, but I would not trust reloads for a minute.

Glock can send you a new owners manual.

The 22 may be the best Glock model in terms of performance, heft, and size.

3 full-capacity mags!?!

You did great!

New full-capacity mags are easily hitting the $150 mark now, if you can find them! That is $150 EACH!

You did real good!

We all miss our guns when we trade them or sell them so we always advise shooters not to ever sell or trade their guns.
But with a deal like that, I would make that trade and never look back.

If that Glock is relatively new (FG/R), and the full-cap mags are good, then you got yourself upwards of $1000 worth of stuff there! Glocks are going up in price so that you cannot get a new G22 for less than $500 out the door, and those three full-capacity mags alone are worth up to $450, depending on the condition and type of mags (they could be worth as little as, say $85 each if they are well used, non-metal-lined ones).

No matter what, even with a worst case scenario, you got a screamin deal.

If you really like your new pistol then I guess you made the right decision. :)

Personally, I have a hard time even thinking of trading away something I like. I enjoying adding something new and different to the collection but I'll wait till I have the cash before trading something I've already got. Especially if it's something I really like.

Like you noted, at least you know where the Ruger went. Perhaps one day your friend will sell it back to you.

I am willing to bet if the guy that got the Ruger decides to sell it, you will have to pay a bunch to get it back. :(

You did well materially and Glocks are great tools but I can't see them being more than that. Your Ruger Vaquero had mystique and when you traded it away a part of you went with it. Btw,did your friend encourage you to make the trade? Just curious.

He did encourage me to make the trade, but I know it wasn't for his own gains. He already had 3 other Ruger 44 Magnums, and I know if I really wanted to, he would sell it back to me. We are the kind of friends that trust our lives to each other without thinking twice. Plus we plan on buying matching Blackhawk 44 Magnum's this summer if funds become available. (We have been best friends since 7th grade.)
