Did I Damage my Parallax Adjustment Knob?

Hello Guys,

I just recently purchased a Nikon Monarch with a side focus knob.

When I received it I turned the side focus a couple of 1/4 turns without first lifting the knob. I heard this crunching/grinding sound. I realized what I have done (needed to lift the knob first), so I lifted the knob and tested the side focus and all seems well. The parallax indicators stop at the 50 yard and infinity indicators so the adjustments seem fine.

However, did I just do damage to my scope? My stomach is turning.

is usually a bad sign in optical equipment. Any optic should move freely with light pressure & zero sound effects.
However you might have just heard some kind of click stop ratchet that disconnects by lifting the knob.
