Did I damage my gun!!!??

Hi, last night I took apart my Mossberg 702 plinkster. I took everything apart and cleaned it all. Tons of grit after 500 rounds. This is my 2nd time taking it apart. When I put it back together, The spring goes in a rod thats on the frame[[~RECOIL SPRING~]] (which the rod comes out, its like the rod in a ak47 to keep the spring in place) and the other end of the spring goes into the bolt carrier. It's hard to get in, and you have to bend the spring. I bent the spring and it is not straight now. It has a little bump in the spring. So if a spring looked like this"=======" mine looks like this "====^===" its not really that bad. I checked and one link just is double size, and a few other bends. I tryed to fix it but nothing happen. I left the gun with the bolt back last night to compress the spring.

IS IT SAFE to shoot the gun with a little messed up spring? it wont break apart or jam on me when shooting fast?
Thanks

I am  at myself lol.

It won't hurt anything to shoot it, but if you start having malfunctions in feeding or bolt cycling properly, then I think you know what is causing it and what you need to replace...But it is safe to shoot!

Oh good thank you :)

I thought I did permanent damage. I was about to call for a replacement part.

There was a ton of burnt powerd in the gun. Around the barrel, theres like crevices around the barrel.

It sounds like a little more frequent maintenance is in order. Funny how those little Marlins will keep going even when fouled to such extremes. I used to have a model 60 years ago that go on, and on...

It's an easy fix though,,,

Just call the nice lady at Mossberg customer service,,,
They will bill your credit card and send you a replacement spring.

I had a replacement part from them in 11 days.

Nice little rifle that 702,,,
People rag on mine because I got it at WalMart,,,
But for a $109.00 rifle it's been a great little performer.

I loaned it to a friend so he could take his kid to an Appleseed shoot,,,
They put a bit over two 550 round bulk packs through it,,,
I was told there was not one malfunction at all.

^ Agreed, very good gun. I only had 1 jam, the shell was smashed and jammed inside the gun.

Also you wouldn't know how to take the magazines apart do you know?

I would buy another spring anyway, just in case you start having problems in the future. Doing so will allow you to change out the old spring immediately and not loose days or weeks of shooting time waiting for your order to arrive.

I've seen the Plinkster outlast several other makes of .22 rifles at Appleseeds, more than once.

A real bargain!

I did the same thing to my Marlin 60 the first time I took it apart. It was reliable before, and it's still reliable after.

They are different rifles and I've never seen the inside of a plinkster so my story may not be relevant to your situation, but I'm guessing you'll be fine.
