On Hardball with Chris Matthews? He was talking about the election and I started falling asleep listening to him and was about to change the channel when he mentioned something about not wanting to cause any "Unintended Consequences". Now, if you've read the book and I know most of you have you must stop and think, was he voicing some kind of public threat, vieled in "gun culture" terminology? I'm sorry I missed his lead in to the phrase but I've never hear anyone on public airwaves use those two words together very often. Anyone hear his whole speal and think he may have been more that just an odd choice of words?

... But as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

I have no common ground with Jackson whatsoever, but no, I don't think it was a veiled threat.

The phrase "unintended consequences" has been used in conservative circles for years, as a criticism of liberal policies that backfire (like most of them). I believe that the expression inspired the book title, rather than the other way around. Frankly, the book by that title has probably never even made it onto Jackson's radar screen.

That terminology is common in political & sociological studies. Just do a search at amazon.com or barnes & noble, you will see a bunch of books come up with that phrase as part of the title or subtitle.
