Did anybody see this "High School" show on Fox?

I caught a few minutes of it. Nothing real stunning except for the fact that these kids are incredibly impressionable. I don't remember being that conformist in my youth. Seems they all talked the same, wore the hat the same, fell into recognizeable cliche groups, etc. Like it was all scripted for them on MTV and they're just going through the motions.

I think mass media is creating a false sense of reality for these youngsters that's supported by the overall surrealism of the government indoctrination camp they're in. Scary as all get out because 90% of them won't ever question any of it.

I don't really get into the "Real" T.V. programming genre, I usually just stick to news and weather, but I may give this show a few episodes if for no other reason than to try and gauge how bad the future may be.

I haven't seen the show, nor will I. Are we really suprised that these kids don't question certain topics. Guess where the kiddies are getting their info on RKBA. Guess where their parents are getting their info on RKBA. I not suprised about children acting like sheep. I am shocked that so many American adults are acting like lambs for the slaughter. Critical thinking is a learned attribute and cannot be learned in front of a TV. Weak and uninformed minds make for future gun-grabbers. :(

Wasn't there a show almost exactly like this on MTV?

I'm not going to watch it. Teen angst just doesn't float my boat. I'm sure they feel terribly picked on, but looking out from this side of my fur they don't have a hell of a lot to stress over.

The first time they have hide behind a cruiser while some anti-social misanthrope chews it up with a large-calibre rifle, when they've had to sneak through Indian Country while an enemy division is looking for them, or try to support a family/pay bills/etc. on a 40-hour paycheck--then they'll have something to get worked up about.

Pfagh.

John McCain actually criticized cynicism, saying it was bad for youth. Arg! I hope Bush doesn't believe anything that stupid.

I absolutely agree Jack. Whole mentalities and trends are dictated by television. The TV tells them what is cool and what is not and then enforces the actions through the fear of being outcast. They'd never even know what was cool if it wasn't told / shown them on TV and it indeed does have a surreal value to it. While it doesn't effect all of them it certainly does a lot and it is not conductive to any analytical or rational thought, indeed it seems to stifle such and the atmosphere it breeds is critical of the same. Lenin ? was wrong, TV is the opiate of the masses.

Scud,
TV may be the opiate of the masses but often IMHO it's the only thing available. If the kids get no direction from parents, aren't involved in sports or clubs with positive message then the only voices they hear are from the idiot box.
When there is only one side of a story then how will they learn to compare/contrast and decide for themselves?

Sorry, here I go again but 30 years of "bad"
public schools, both parents working to buy
junk, and yes in some case just to survive.
Babies in day care from birth. Liberal school
which teach no basic's, liberal televison etc.
We have a group of young folks that cannot
think for themselves and are very angry and
we all will pay the price. I know it does not
paint a pretty picture but if you read history we are heading down a bad path. No, I
won't watch the show nor the surviver show or
anything that has a bunch of whining, selfish
victims.
Whew, I feel better now.!

Haven't seen it...not gonna...I'll watch something like WCW where everyone has personal problems and HATES everyone else. :)

Come in from pulling 12hrs in the heat here in Texas...cousin, one of those brain-dead and lazy cattle types wants to know

"What's wrong with you?"

[[Like ~doh~, she sits on her ample rear all day everyday while her folks support her and can't do a THING around here to klean up. :( ]]

I told her...there's nothing wrong with me...I look like a mean bear ALL nthe time! It's people like you that watch 90210 who seems to think everyone in the bloody world should walk around with a stupid smile on their faces!

That shut her up for a bit. :)

New sport, telly targets. Please pick up all trash before leaving the shooting area.

Television is a great machine for distributing propaganda, government controlled and addictive.

The WWW is feared by all oppressive governments because it is anarchy. Government controls are and will always be a threat to be guarded against.

We should treasure our internet capabilities while we have them. Don't believe all but let all cause us to think.

I'm really too old to relate to the perceived problems of today's High School Kids.

When I was in school my dad worked the 4 to 12 shift at Reynolds Aluminum Company and I only
saw him on Saturday and Sunday. From the age of 12, I've always had an income producing job.
When I was 12 I had both a morning and afternoon paper route and by the time I was 14 I had
a morning paper route and then worked after school and Saturday's at a gas station. If I wanted
a new rifle, more ammo, bicycle, new leather jacket or whatever, I was expected to buy it myself.
If I did not maintain an overall grade of C or better, then I was not moved to the next higher grade.
There was NO social promotions. Also when the family went to Church on Sunday I was expected
to go, the only way that I could NOT go was to be sick in bed with a high fever. I was expected
to mow the lawn and wash the car WITHOUT being told. What I'm getting at with this long winded
post is that kids had responsibilities. Did I feel abused or neglected? Hell no!
Maybe kids need more of that sort of thing today.

And if you are wondering……NO I didn't have to walk to and from school barefoot, in the snow, uphill both ways. ;)

I used to produce television and I can tell you that a show about a bunch of well-adjusted kids who really have their sh!# together just wouldn't fly. Even a show about "Actual" kids would just be bad TV and would get killed in the ratings (i.e.: no profits).

The folks who produce these "reality" shows go to great lengths to find the most extreme and dysfunctional examples possible. The voyeurs of the world (90% of us) will all tune in for different reasons. The fellow LCD's tune in because they think these kids are cool and can relate to them. The ultra conservatives tune in because it's so disgusting. And the rest of us tune in because we just can't believe it and want to see what the dipsh!# is gonna do next.

But they all tune in and it brings big bucks.

I agree it's a disgusting trend (I've gone from creating TV to not even watching the damn thing anymore). But, please keep in mind it's still just TV. Just like how we're not all fashion models and body builders, those kids are not a representative example of all kids. Please don't give up on them all just yet.
