If the weapon belonged to the Detroit police selling it would be illegal. IF you want to report a stolen weapon there are other places to do that.

The Detroit PD can sell it along with any of their guns they want to. Many departments do that, and folks can end up getting good deals on guns. If the OP is looking to find his pistol that the PD traded in or sold I think the chances are about nil. If he lost it, then, well good luck with that.

Yeah that's going to be real tough. I'd contact your old department and ask them what they did with it. They should have a record of where it went though they may tell you they have better things to do with their time. And they do.

The best thing I can say is to just watch on gunbroker. Its been maybe a year since these police trade-ins hit the market. I remember when they hit the market last year, but all I can guess is they have been purchased by now.
