Detroit Police Chief comes out for CCW

I watched him on CNN last night as well.

The incredulousness of the CNN Commentator was astounding. After the Chief came out in support of CCW, he was very quickly thanked and shunted off the air.

All rather humorous.

As much as I hate it when big city police chiefs wear four stars, that guy certainly displayed a fair amount of moral courage.

Detroit PD....

It's good that the top cop of Detroit MI supports 2A issues & CCW but overall the Detroit police force has a few major scandals & serious problems.
The recent chief was under fire for having a affair & the IA detective involved took a Twitter photo of herself pointing a M&P service pistol in her mouth.

Gun owners & license holders need LE officials support but the command staff need to be ethical & stable.

It's not surprising when we consider the situation in Detroit. The economy is in depression, most folks with money have moved out, crime has skyrocketed, and there have been several cuts in the department's budget over the last five years.

Cheif Craig is simply being realistic. In and of itself, that's laudable.

That was Ralph Goodbe Jr., the previous chief of police and that happened over a year ago. Do you have any scandal that can be attributed to this chief?

This statement wraps things up in a nutshell.

The gangs (and all the wonderful elements they bring) have all but taken over Detroit. Things have deteriorated to the point that Detroit Metro PD. can't possibly take the streets back. The very reason MSP (Michigan State Police) is there as well. Even at that, with the jail overcrowding and the courts being so overwhelmed, there are many stops(some felony) being made in which there should be arrests that the perps are being turned loose and not even being arrested. Much of this directive is coming from the prosecutors office.

With things being as bad as they are in Detroit, it would be almost criminal for the Chief not to applaud the decent citizens right to carry. He's possibly just facing the reality that things being that bad, LE can't possibly protect the public like it should.

I grew up in the Detroit area. A couple of years ago a private detective I hired told me the murder rate was so high in Detroit that they did a toxicology report on any shooting victim. If there were any drugs in the corps, they attributed the death to drugs and not bullet wounds.

Reports, stats....

Some say; "stats don't lie" which in theory is true. But the problem comes up when elected officials or LE chiefs(who are appointed)/county Sheriffs(elected) start to "fudge" the #s. Or the PDs distort what calls for service are or how they respond to the cases.
My local sheriff(with approx 1200 sworn deputies) came under fire for doing the same thing. He was investigated by the state LE agency & AG's office. The sheriff was cleared of wrong-doing but many community leaders & observers feel the sheriff's office was misleading the public.
FWIW; violent crime in my city is down overall but the PD did report a increase in thefts/break-ins.
