Detroit pd m&p.40

Has the Detroit P.D. decided that guns were unsafe for their officers?

LOL!

:eek::eek:

Seriously, that's a pretty sweet deal. I have an M&P 40 S&W Compact and I like it. I'm not sure I like it as much as the FN FNS 40 S&W I just bought from Palmetto State Armory though. $357 to my FFL dealer. Night sights. Three mags. Can't beat it!

I have been a 1911 guy for quite a while and recently picked up my first striker gun in a Pro 9. I absolutely love this pistol and would highly recommend an M&P no matter the flavor. That's a lot of aftermarket stuff for the price. Haven't tried the FNS but I'd imagine it's just as sweet.

I have read here or on some other gun forum it seems a lot of police departments are dumping .40 S&W and going back to 9mm. I think the reasoning was the FBI had gone back to 9mm. Sounds like a crazy rationale to me.

You know what they say: believe nothing you hear, nothing you read and only half of what you see.

Yes. I recently bought one and it is everything Bud's states it is. It is a brand new gun!

:D

My sights were in good shape but as you know being six or so years old they're not guaranteed. Give the M&P a good inspection upon arrival, including all three mags which are also new. If something is not to your liking simply refuse and they'll take it back. Bud's is an excellent company with a well-deserved reputation, but like most Internet vendors once you accept and sign for your gun, they won't want to know you.

A few months ago Bud's also had Detroit PD unissued S&W .40 compact models and I bought one of them too. Same report, everything like new. AFAIK those are now all sold out.

I had an M&P40 made in about 2012 and loved everything about it besides the trigger. The trigger was a joke. Really really bad. Should not have made it out of the factory. Because of the trigger I got rid of it. My current plastic fantastic is has the best factory striker trigger in the world!

I picked up 2 of them and a C model before they ran out. Yup they are brand new and shoot just fine! Bud's still has the full size on their web site! Hard to beat new M&P40, 3 mags, and night sights! $399

Uncle Malice Nice to see that you moved tot he P320, p71pilot!

I moved onto a Walther PPQ .40 M2, I bet the trigger is finer than the striker sig AND the P99AS!

The PPQ and P99AS have the same trigger(unless you decock the P99)

They have a much longer travel than the P320.

I also have a PPQ and after some polishing and adjusting of the trigger bar tab to properly center the ramp on the firing pin block it's pretty good. It's not as good as my P320, though. :)

Only my opinion, of course. I will concede that actual break of the PPQ is just slightly better than the P320... but there's a long take-up that is often kind of chunky and not particularly smooth. The Apex flatty trigger for the PPQ takes care of most of that take-up, but that's another $100 into the gun.

I'm just poking fun, of course. We live in a great time where we have such fine triggers available. The PPQ is definitely in the top handful of striker triggers.

Looks like Detroit is getting rid of them to help buy bottles of water to fix their contaminated water problem. Jk. I pray that their city pulls together and wish my brothers in blue the best.

Not sure what pistol they are switching too.
I LOVE 9mm. Our fairly large department just replaced all of our guns and the .40 to 9mm debate was hugely looked at (mainly because of the FBI ballistic stats and the fact the ammunition renovations have arguably made the 9 compatible to the 40). Our department subsequently stuck with the .40 cal but oh well.

Back on topic. PICK IT UP! I love department engraved weapons. It's an added "neatness" bonus. Without customizing your weapon, it makes it just different enough than anyone else with that same model gun.

Detroit seems to have a penchant for dumping unused guns. About two years ago I bought an unfired, unused S&W Model 10 M&P 5" factory nickeled gun marked "Detroit PD." These may have been the forerunners to the M&P .40.
