Detonics question. Am I nuts?

Couldn't help myself. Traded my Taurus titanium .44SPL snubbie in on a Detonics Pocket 9.

Somebody please tell me I'm not completely around the bend.

I love this little thing. Shoots good, sucks down any ammo I've thrown at it so far, good DA/SA pull, safety's easy to engage/disengage, and this thing tucks into an IWB holster so well that "I" don't even know it's there.

Then the downside... The companies gone, the guns themselves were only made for 2 years (85-86), only 6 +1 capacity, heavy little beast (if I run out of ammo I can clock somebody up' side the head with it), and it's a stone cold killer to get apart.

So, am I a certifiable nutjob for doing this or did I make a decent choice.

Also, if anybody with info on where I can get mags, holsters, or other accessories to go with it, I would be very grateful.

Check out Biggerhammer.net, so far one of the better sites I have found on Detonics. If you don't find what you want there, type in a search using the "Dogpile" search engine and then do a search for "Detonics". It was surprising the numbers of web pages out there. Most of these have companies that are supporting Detonics aftermarket parts.

Forgot to mention, you are not a nut job! I walked into a new dealer in my area and sitting in the case was a brushed stainless Combat Master in excellent condition. Being the curious type (and wanting to see if the gun lived up to the hype) I picked it up and instantly fell in love. After consulting a trusted friend about the wisdom of the deal, I am picking it up tomorrow- with a 30 day money back warranty. So if it is insanity- I can definately say make my strightjacket in a 46 regular please.

Hmmm...

Found 1 more downside on the Pocket 9. This pistol absolutely mashes Federal Hydrashoks. With the heavy spring, the pistol mashes the conical tips of the bullets into the feed ramp and flattens them out. They still chamber, but accuracy goes right out the window on them.

Guess I need to look for a more rounded bullet with a thicker jacket.

I'll probably stick with CCI GDHP's or Remington Golden Sabers. Both work extremely well.

Any other suggestions for bullet choice? Since this is a straight blowback pistol, +P ammo is out of the picture.

The best rounds for these were the Federal Nyclads. It really sucks that they stopped making them. The slick Nyclad nose allowed the round to pop right into the chamber slick as snot. And the soft lead allowed the slug to mushroom out like a freaking Portobello. It was my favorite for 9MM in autos with less than 100% reliability.

I don't think You're nuts! You've just landed what's sure to be a collectors item and You can always buy another Taurus .44 if You want to.tom.

I've seen three or four Pocket 9's for sale, in the past week. They seem to be made well enough. Like the Combat Master, they are somewhat heavy, but heavy guns are more fun to shoot than lightweight ones.
