Does anyone own or have info on the Japanese Liberty Chief which I have been told was made on a Colt patent? How does it compare to a Colt made about the same time? What is the current value in good ( not excellent) condition?
It looks just like my Detective Special.

It was not made on any Colt patents.
Like the Armscor revolvers that externally look like a Colt Detective Special, they're quite different inside and not at all like a Colt "D" frame revolver.

The lLberty Chief is not in the same league as a Colt revolver.
The Liberty Chief was made by Miroku and imported in very limited numbers up until 1964.

The only thing in common with a Colt is the way the cylinder latch works; otherwise, the mechanism is pretty much a copy of the S&W lockwork. IIRC, the hammer rebounds, but there is no hammer block or transfer bar, so it might not be safe if dropped on the hammer. (Perhaps someone can check on that, as I am not sure.)
