It looks to be in decent condition. I believe that they started putting the shroud on them post 1972?

The price? Kind of high if you ask me.

But not nearly as psychotic at the prices on a lot of the other guns that they have in that store...

Manufactured 1978 - 1986?; 3rd Issue (shrouded ejector rod & medallion-less wrap around checkered grips starting in 1978)

Grips appear to be original Colt (look exactly like the ones on my 1970's Cobra). It's always possible they were taken off another Colt D-Frame, but by the late 70's, all the Colt D-Frames had the same length grip frame. I believe those are the original grips in the picture and appropriate for a 3rd Issue Detective Special..

IMHO, the asking price is about $200 - $250 too high for an example in that condition. $500+ would be normal in my neck of the woods.

S10599 was made in 1979.
It looks all original, including the grips.

The price is very high for a gun in that stated condition.

Glad you can talk them down. I've got a '73 that is going to go to Grant Cunningham in a little while and I'll have just a bit more than the asking price in mine after it's had the custom work done on it.

I'd say that is early seventies. Mine has the same grips.

$495 for this one a couple of years ago. I have since aquired the correct wood grips but find the Pac's more comfortable for shooting...
