Detachable Mag. or Hinger Floor Plate?

I'm just starting to understand all the significant components of long range shooting in a good competion rifle.

One question I have is wheather to have a detachable mag. or hinged floor plate.

Is it one or the other?
Or can you remove the floor plate and put in the mag with some extra equipment?

Your thought and advice.

I have seen hinged floorplates come open on firing and spilling the ammo on the ground. Never good. Detatacble box would avoid this.
But, I really favor a blind box. It has less moving parts and never falls open. Takes a few seconds longer to unload but that is the only downside, IMHO.
What kind of long range shooting are you talking about? For competition you could get by with a single shot or a blind box with a special insert that makes the rifle (temporarily) a single shot. Even for hunting you (most likely) will not be doing rapid fire and a single shot would still suit you fine.

I'll second that. Blind or internal mag is the way to go. All but my AR 15 and .22 auto loaders are internal. My .22 for comp is a bolt action single. And high power shoots, not always but quite often, limit to single shot anyhow. Depending on class.

I have shot a truckload of hinged floorplate rifles, including numerous Interarms Mark X models, Weatherby Vanguard, Remington BDLs, Winchester's, ranging in calibers from .223-7mm Rem Mag, I have never seen a hinged floorplate open on firing, never!:) I HAVE seen the mishandling of a loaded firearm result in the dropping of the magazines contents onto the ground, but never upon the firing of one, so don't shi away from any such models because they're actually handy to use!!!;) And the answer is yes there are companies that make "custom" bottom metal for alot of different configurations, google it!!
