Desperately Seeking Arcadia Machine & Tool (& new .45 barrel)

Bullwhip

Inactive
Can anyone tell me if AMT is alive, dead, changed names?

I have an AMT Hardballer on its last legs which requires a new barrel. The local gunsmith tried some standard barrels and they don't fit. My only other recourse is to try to find factory or someone who makes factory.

HELP!! I may have a paperweight here....

Bullwhip, can you be more specific about why the barrels won't fit? A barrel usually requires fitting and you can get a much better barrel in the aftermarket than what Galena will sell you. Think BarSto, Kart, Nowlin, or Jarvis.

You're right, Jeff, and local, all-around type gunsmiths are not usually qualified to properly and precisely fit 1911 barrels, it's more of a specialty job. for that reason I'm always leary of trusting the average local general gunsmith for specialty work....

Thanks for the replies!

Talked to AMT. Any 1911 barrel should work, with some fitting. I am not sure what the problem the local smith was having as it should have worked. I have to give him credit as he was very helpful and didn't charge for the time. He showed me and the slide was forward 1/8 - 1/4 inch more than it should be (ie back of slide even with frame). Said that it was the legs or the slide pin that was ahead 1/4". I think bs.

I am trading this off, damaged barrel et al. for a new .40 Glock, which I wanted anyway, from a local dealer. Dealer knows about the problem so I will take what I can on trade. Nothing absolutely infuriates me than surprises and faulty equipment.

Thanks all for your help!

Shame it isn't the Galena version of the .45...they do the "lifetime warranty" thing. They don't do it for old AMT stuff, however, as they bought rights to some designs and the name, but not the liability for old warranties. A necessary business decision, of course.
