Desk gun and safe at the office

My favorite carry gun is a glock 26/27 (the baby glock in 9 or 40), and over lunch today, legal counsel hinted that plenty of murders went down at the office. Do any of you keep a gun in a safe attached to your desk and leave it there all the time?

If so please share specifics.

Thanks a lot,

Paul

Best place for a gun, if you want to use it in a hurry, is on your person. If shots rang out I'd hit the door instead of running to my gun safe. So far I've never worked at a place that would allow me to carry a gun.

I'd get written up if I came to work without mine. I have a full size Glock on my hip, a baby on my ankle, along with an 870 and an AR in a rack in the "office".

Mine always goes to work with me. It comes out of the holster and into my desk drawer when I get to my office. At the end of the day it goes right back in my holster and out the door with me.

In my case I don't really fell the need to keep a firearm locked up in my office all the time. Although, I always thought it would be cool to have a double barrel shotgun on a swivel under my desk... completely unnecessary but one can wish :)

Just a few solutions I found with a quick Google search:

If you intend to leave the gun in a desk drawer all the time, be sure you perform due diligence with your state laws regarding handgun storage.

Additionally, you will probably want to
- Select a locking desk drawer
- Use a safe that can be bolted down
- Has metal plate(s) to protect against prying
- Secure the drawer or safe with a cable inside the drawer space.

If your desk drawer is locked and a thief opens it, if he tries to take the unit the cable has to be cut, then the safe pried out and opened. With all that, no one can claim you didn't go the extra mile to prevent its theft.

Depending on your business, the best place for your weapon is on your person. In legal offices, lawyers often meet clients in their offices. Other businesses use a conference or meeting room for privacy. If you're not in your office when things go bad, having the gun may do you little good.

Lastly, your "office gun" should be kept squeaky clean. Always. Never store it dirty after shooting at the range. This allows you to detect if the gun has been fired and returned to your desk.

I carry quite often ( not every day ) at the office... I'm the manager of a small manufacturing plant... if I'm planning a physical day on the floor I might not wear it, if I have meetings in the twin citys I definately do wear it ... but it's always on my person if I have one at work... I'm the 1st point of contact in the plant... locked in a drawer would likely not do me any good if I actually needed it...
