Desert Eagle

I have an opportunity to buy a Desert Eagle 50 cal. I'd kinda like some of your opinions on the gun and the ammo before I decide on it. Can you all be so kind as to offer your ideas on one?
Thanks:)

I have one...

well built, ALWAYS shoots, and not fussy at all...

VERY bulky, and MUCH more of a show-piece than any thing else...

I WOULD buy another, if I didn't already have a .44 and a .50

accuracy is decent, but is FAR better from my Dan Wesson .44...

a REALLY neat gun, if you have that much disposable income...

recoil isn't too bad, as the thing is very heavy...

the .50 is EXPENSIVE to shoot... (but alotta fun)

sorry about the rambling on, but this is just a list of my thoughts, since you asked, and I own one!

It may not be the most practical gun in the world, but HELL, what a conversation piece it would be :D

You can even use it as a club should you run out of ammo.

Own 2. One is a Model 7 50 A.E.. Which I also have a a spare 44 Magnum barrel for. The other is a Model 19 44 Magnum. They are good guns if you keep them clean and use good quality, not light loaded ammo. Note you can't shoot lead through it. It can clog the gas port which cycles the slide, and loads the next round. Jacketed hand loads work well also. As long as they are loaded medium to higher pressures in the loading data manuals. Also note the gas system and weight tame the recoil pretty good.

Some bitch that it isn't not concealable. So it's no good. Well not every gun has to be concealable to be any good!!! Doesn't make it worthless. Others can't shoot them good, because:
-they flinch (maybe due to muzzle blast in some cases),
-grip is too big,
-gun is too heavy,
-use light loaded ammo which causes jams,
-use one that hasn't been kept clean (like a range rental),
-used an older un-realiable model.

You didn't say how much it was?

Don't let peoples comments discourage you. Most are only repeating things they've heard. Some assume that since they can't shoot it worth a damn. Then nobody can, and nobody should own one.

Remember if you don't like it. You can always sell or trade it off. Give it a chance if you decide to get. Give yourself a little while to get used to it if it's not to your liking right away. If the caliber is too much. You can always get a 44 Magnum barrel, and magazine. Which is all that is needed to change it over to a 44 Magnum. Then give that a try.

Not very practical outside of handgun hunting. It is big, it is heavy, it is expensive to feed (both factory and reload as compared to other calibers).

It is, however, a blast to shoot for fun. It is also one of a very very small number of handgun designs with a rotating bolt action. It is one of a few that is chambered for .50AE. It is one of a few semiautos chambered for magnum rounds. It is built like a tank. Adjustable factory trigger. Interchangable between 4 calibers.

If you don't do much handgun hunting like me but just like to collect on a serious level, this is one gun that should be in your inventory.

Totally useless. Can't carry it, ammo is expensive, the gun is expensive, muzzle flash is huge, recoil is pretty heavy (though not unbearable), etc. etc. etc.

That being said, I love mine (chrome 50AE). What a blast to shoot. You can't help but giggle after each round. Absurd power. Makes you the most popular guy at the range. Eveyrone walks over and sasy "What the h__ is that?" Surprisingly accurate and reliable.

It's expensive, and definately not a gun for the beginner. But if you've already got a .45, a 9mm or two, and something smaller to carry when you can't carry anything else, it's a great addition to the collection.

I'm just going to second (third/fourth/...) everything everyone else has said. I don't have one, but a friend does, and it's a hoot to shoot ... for those 20 rounds or so before your hands feel like they're going to fall off. His fails to feed far more regularly than any of our other guns, but damn, that's a FUN gun to shoot.

Have one, on my second 50AE...sold my first stupidly. Nothing really to add to the above statements, I don't hunt....but I like variety and this gun is lots of fun to shoot, its a crowd pleaser (although not at indoor ranges

). So, just another positive vote here.

Freakin' huge gun. I'd recommend the optional 23-round hi-cap magazines; you can ask Arnold Schwarzenegger where to get those, since he used one in his film "Eraser".

The Agents from "The Matrix" use 'em too.
