desert eagle

To the best of my knowledge, yes.

..I don't THINK anyone is running around with a Barret with a pistol grip and 5 inch barrel.......

I think I'm going to second that opinion.

Many people don't like DE's- I think they are awesome, I'm on my second one.

What is interesting, is that Maadi Griffin (think thats how its spelled)- looks like a Grizzly, has a 50bmg "Carbine"- this thing looks really small. I would definitely pay someone to shoot it first :), must have a muzzle blast from hell.

don't know how far the news left SC, but a local man who worked at an indoor firing range here accidentally shot himself with a Desert Eagle. one of those unbelievable sorts of accidents. apparently, he lost control of it on his first shot and it went off on the second, with the bullet striking him in the head. he was engaged.

as it happened, my brother and I had just left that range a half-hour earlier; I'd watched the customer shooting the gun, you know, trying it out, and I only just changed my mind about asking him if I could try it out. the guy ended up leaving the rest of the box of ammo for whomever wanted it; I suppose that's how the employee came to be firing the thing. I think I'll stick to .40s and whatnot.

I'm not saying anything about the gun itself, just relating what happened this Monday.

Thats the one thing about a DE50- that I have had guys at the range with a half dozen handguns, and after firing it- I usually ask if they wanted to try it out (since it got their attention)- most don't want to go near it, there is no denying it- its an intimidating handgun and if someone is not accustomed to shooting large caliber pistols, you can see it on their faces "No, thats quite alright- I'll pass." While it doesn't have the craziest recoil (44mag revolver is worse IMO)- its bad enough to give someone a real wake up call (I put 1 round in only if someone other than myself wants to fire it, just in case the gun drops, to be cautious)- hey its almost happened before.

yeah, it's funny, but on my way out of the range I asked one of the older guys behind the counter if he'd ever shot one. he just smiled and shook his head and said he didn't mess with that stuff anymore.

reminds me of The Matrix, how Agent Smith/Hugo Weaving fired them one handed. heh. nice work if you can get it, and if you're a 6'4" computer representation.

FUD, assuming you are referring to the DE50AE- yes, its recoil is definitely worse than a 357mag., the only recoils that seem to be noticeably worse than the DE50 are hot 44mag's in a revolver and of course 454 Casull.

The recoil is much more than .357 mag, but is in the realm of a .44 mag. The intimidating part, for me when I first shot my friends Eagle was the incredible muzzle blast. Wow that gun puts out shock waves! At the indoor range where we shoot the Eagle they have cameras. The attendant said that the cameras static out when the .50 cal is fired. I was quite intimidated after 4 shots, but have become more accustomed lately. It is a sweet gun, although ammo cost is quite expensive. It is a gun with LOTS of coolness and awe, but I prefer to shoot .40 or my .357, besides, you can go broke shooting a gun that costs more than a buck a shot.

I've only shot the .44DE. It was a pussy cat compared to lighter SA revolvers. The weight and bulk of the thing soaked up a lot of the muzzle flip. I have shot the RAging Bull in .454 and the red and black grips work! The recoil was not unmanageable.

The DE in 44mag is an absolute pleasure to shoot in comparison to- lets say a Colt Anaconda, if the round is hot enough- getting through the entire cylinder can be "very" painful (you don't get that with the DE44)- but chambered in 50AE, the thing shakes the gun racks outside the range (after 6 rounds or so, I stop- out of respect for the range people and other shooters)-it does also double as a flame thrower, can't beat that combo :).

I fired a Raging Bull also, while the grips work great and the gun is somewhat managable,
that gun still kicks like a horse.

Ait the 454 casull a bit more powerfull than the 50AE,then makeing the casull the most powerfull handgun?

The 454Cassul is not the most powerful handgn. Of coarse there are the big single shots. But I think the most powerful wheelgun right now is .500 Linebuagh(think thats how you spell it!).

The original question was for semi-autos. I'm pretty sure the .50AE DEP is the one.

The FA .454Casull is the most powerful in handgun cartridges. (Anyone see an FA .475Linebaugh yet? I'm still waiting on that one. I'd like to see one before buying.) If the FA .475L is finally in production, then I think that would be the most powerful.

As posted there are considerably more powerful handguns, but they fire rifle cartridges.

How do the Wildey calibers compare? They are pretty stinking big autoloaders.

Has anyone fired the .44 Automag? I know it's not a .50AE, but I've heard it's comparable to a .45 WinMag. (I haven't shot that, either) But the Automag is one of my dream handguns, ever since Sudden Impact.
