Desert Eagle VII 41 Mag

I noticed in this month's Shotgun News that CDNN Investments is selling Desert Eagle VII in 357 and 41 Mag for $649. I have an affection for .41's so a Desert Eagle in .41 would be interesting. I also realize a Desert Eagle is really nothing more than "a fun gun" so I don't care about its usefulness.

Two questions:

I didn't think the 41 Mag was made anymore so I am assuming these are older guns? Is that a fair assumption especially being the VII?

Also any bad experiences ordering guns from CDNN? I know some on here get mags there but I can recall any gun comments.

Thanks for any advice.

IIRC, the .41 Mag was dropped during the Mk VII reign.

The Mk VIIs were all Isreali made. The Mk XIXs are US made. Again IIRC, some of the very early Mk XIXs were Isreali. The Mk XIXs are essentially copies of the .50 AE Mk VII.

I've had nothing but very good luck with CDNN on parts and mags. Never purchased a firearm from them however. Their response over the phone on orders and information can be a little terse but I thinks they are just trying to be efficient.

Just keep in mind that Desert Eagles are gas-operated so you CANNOT use lead bullets. This I only mention because as far as I know there are no jacketed .41 bullets available in bulk, meaning that reloading with jacketed only can get expensive. $12-$15 per 100. Just something to keep in mind, but a DE in .41 Mag would be cool. Probably feels like shooting a .45 as far as recoil. Good luck.

Midway lists Remington bulk bullets for the 41.
200gr SJHP 46.99/500
210gr JSP 47.99/500
I too have been tempted by CDNN's deal on the DE. I'd really like a semi 357, but the DE is just so big I don't think it'd be worth it. Wish I had my Coonan back.

My bad

I forgot about the Remington bullets. I don't like them because they are only semi-jacketed, which is fine for the DE I think.

You guys are no help....supposed to come up with a good reason not to buy one. We are all bad influences of each other on here. My birthday is approaching so a new gun is right in order. However there are two others I want also and only have the money for one.

Kobra, what others are on your wish list? I'll try to help you narrow them down. In my opinion the Desert Eagle's are pure fun guns only, no practical reason for owning one. I sold both of mine. I used to have a Mark VII .44Mag and a Mark XIX .50AE.

I dunno. If there's no practical reason for owning a DE, then there's no practical reason for a .454 Revolver, a .480 Ruger revolver, and certainly not anything in .475 or .500 Linebaugh.

Unless, of course, you handgun hunt. The DE weighs more than most revolvers, but then, it has a lot less felt recoil, too, so it's a tradeoff.

10mm, my other choices were a USP 45 and a Para-Ord 18-9 (while I can still find one).

No I agree with everyone, a DE is an expensive toy without being very practical at anything but you never know. I have read other posts on here and others were some have even try to carry a DE. Anyway a .41 mag in anything always gets my attention.

My choice

I would go with the USP45F. My reasoning is mostly because I have a USP45F SS that I bought 3 years ago and it is a tackdriver, and reliable. I have never had a single malfunction. With handloads I can shoot a 3/4" group at 15 yards, it amazes me. It is no slouch with factory ammo either, but with my handloads it is like a laser. Also, I am not a big PO fan so I doubt you would ever hear me reccomend one. If I was going to buy a hi capacity 1911 I would go with a SVI/Infinity or an STI. Just my opinion, and of course if you get a USP 45 it may be more or less accurate than mine, a lot of times it's an individual gun thing. Good luck with your purchase.

FWIW, I saw those CDNN prices and am sorely tempted too (and I still want to buy a Beretta M92, Kimber 1911, and a AR-15!). I do want to own a Desert Eagle someday, even if they are huge, heavy, impractical, expensive to feed, etc, etc, etc, if only so that I can say, "Yeah, that big gun in that movie there? I own one."
