Desert Eagle .50AE BANNED!?

I have heard that the Desert Eagle .50AE is going to be outlawed, or that they are trying to outlaw it. The reason, i heard-hear say-waws taht it went to bullet proof vests. Anyone have any info about this??

They've been considering banning or regulating .50 BMG rifles, and some of the ammunition that is available for it, but this is the first I've heard of anyone talking about banning .50 AE.

Yeah, like i said it was hear say(dont trust anythign thats not a reliable source). So, HOPEFULLY, this was just gossip. But with 10" barrel @ 1800 muzzle velocity id say it would rip through a bullet proof vest(standard) and if not i would hurt like a.....well u know.

What's the point of banning any handgun caliber? None of them stack up against any centerfire rifle caliber. However, when looking at the majority of gun laws and the "thinking" behind them, such a law would probably make sense. I am sure that my .243 Win rifle probably only produces one-half the effect of the twice-its-size .50 AE...

In order to understand how an anti-gun lobbyist thinks, you must experience their mental functions for yourself. First, drink a fifth of Scotch. Then bang your head against the edge of your bathtub several times. Then spin yourself around in circles for about three minutes. After all this, your mind might be damaged enough to simulate the irrational state of the anti-gun lobbyist. There is only one other group whose minds are as numb as the anti-gun lobbyists are, and they are the ones who are swayed by their irrational utterances.

Truth be known, the anti-gunners hate the .50 AE because it's physical dimensions evoke within them feelings of inadequacy .

Reb, I did all that and spun in place for FOUR minutes and still able to understand that this GSC rumor doesn't make any sense (of course, my bathtub is spaceage polymer).

If the DemocRATS get congress back, look out. They will ban whatever they can. Look at what they did to Kalifornia.

I figure if they are going to ban one 50 caliber they will write it so all 50 caliber is banned.

I mean to some people this is like 22 lr vs 22 shorts vs 22 magnums. If you kill one and want to eventually kill everything, why not ban everything in that caliber. Oh, I forgot the awful 22 longs.

Of course I have never seen anything in 50 AE, so I am assuming it is the same diameter of the 50 bmg. But I could be wrong and if you ask my girlfriend, I am always wrong.

Glock35, what is a "standard" bullet proof vest. First of all, none are bullet proof. You might as well drop that expression all together. They are resistent to ballistic penetration at various levels. "Bullet proof" is a misnomer.

A lot of calibers may be "banned" or made illegal at some point, but I doubt the real reasoning will have anything to do with penetrating ballistic vests. That sounds like pure folklore or paranoia reasoning. Note the lack of deail. What sort of ballistic vests are we talking about? Level II, IIa, III, IIIa, or IV? Several handgun calibers will go through the IIa vest, some through the II level, but those calibers are not banned.

For double naught spy: the penetrating a bullet proof vest idea is what got everyone worried about cop killer bullets. That was their design, supposedly. I have yet to see any but there are still people who consider the true black talons to be illegal to have in their gun.

I doubt they will use this again, but I would also not rule it out. And the public does not care about the level of vest. If they saw a flak jacket that resembled a bullet resistant vest get penetrated by +p ammo, I am sure that would start getting removed from circulation.

Steel core is getting harder to find due to that hand gun concept and the companies that make handguns firing a rifle round.

back in my infantry days one of my buddies had a DE .50 and we got bored one day and took an old helmet out and shot it, it was highly disappointing, not so much as a scratch, hit it with an M-16-A2 and it punched right through. of course I wouldn't want to be the person in kevlar getting hit by a desert eagle either.

Double Naught Spy: I meant a level 1 or 2 Bullet proof vest(hey im just repeating what they are called). Level 5 is suppose to stop .308 round.
The only reason i wanted to know about the banning is to know how long i can wait til i buy a DE Titanium Gold .50AE.

illuminatus99: Of course the .223 you shot "punched through" your shooting mil spec ammo, little better than our public ammo.
If u would of had a 10" barrel with th ebest ammo(1800fps, 1800fpd) then i bet it would of, atleast, dented the hell outta it.

Only if tehy made explosive tip ammo for the .50AE

IIRC, vests are rated from Class I to Class IV, although there's actually five classes -- Class IIIA is very different from Class III.

Class I: Low-powered handguns
Class II: Most medium-powered handguns
Class IIIA: Most handguns
Class III: Anything up to a 7.62 FMJ (but 5.56mm AP and 7.62mm AP will penetrate easily, according to a friend in the military)
Class IV: Anything up to .30-06 AP

your shooting mil spec ammo, little better than our public ammo.

You might want to check on that.

You can buy all the green-tip 5.56 you want at your local gun shop or over the internet.

I am aware of the levels of armor, was stating that for other guy that thought standard shouldn't been used. And yes the armor piercing bullets go through that-as they are mil spec. hints why there nato or american made. one of my friends has a mak-90 and had some armor piercing bullets and shot them in the rear of a car threw the front(& yes the motor was still in the car):D

"Since your gun says 'Replica' on the side, and mine says 'Desert Eagle .50'..."

I struggle to find the rationale behind these things sometimes...

Glock 35: the mil spec ammo does make quite a bit of difference but it's still kind of disappointing to shoot right trough a helmet that you've been told is supposed to be able to protect you, makes you a lot more careful and alert during live-fire exercises though.

This rumor could stem from the fact that while they were cooking up the GCA of '94 some of Fienstiens "knowledgeable" advisors told her about the DE that fired .50 BMG.

YES id say that would make you alot more alert during any "live firing" of any kind. Does the military shoot normal bullets or are they armor piercing-i know snipers carry an assortment didnt know about the other guys. maybe it was just the old helmet.... anyhow - Keep your head down.;)
