Desantis Superfly Holster

Just purchased a Desantis Superfly Holster for my PM9. This is my first pocket holster and I chose the superfly because it was reasonably priced and gets pretty good reviews. I tried it out, and when I draw the pistol the supposedly supersticky material on the outside of the holster really doesn't do much. Most of the time the entire holster came out when I tried to draw the gun. I was wearing casual pants with fairly large pockets, but not cargo pants. What gives? Does this holster only work in jeans or tighter pants? I'm thinking of going the kydex route with a pocket holster with a thumb push off like the FIST. Any experiences with those?

I am thinking you are needing a slightly tighter pocket. It sounds like the holster just cant catch. I am wearing one right now for my lcr, and I have not had an issue yet. If I wear dress pants with very big pockets, it can do exactly what you describe. I have been using my coat pocket, which fits the holster much better. Good luck

Are you wearing it with the full cover flap,or just the primary holster? Try the whole package in the back pocket. It looks just like a wallet, and draws well. I have a TCP.

I pull toward the front or rear when I draw hooking the tab or the the front edge. It comes out without the holster. Try it a few times. its not a big deal to overcome. If you have pockets tight enough to hold onto the holster you will start printing and sitting down will be uncomfortable

DeSantis Nemnesis, pocket rigs....

I bought a slick little DeSantis Nemnesis holster for my total Ti Protector .357magnum in 2004. I had a concealed license at the time and toted the Ti snub revolver w/o any problems.
I saw the newer Superfly but I'd stay with the Nemnesis design. It's smaller, tighter weave design seems sticky & secure for me.
I'd add that a few sworn LE officers and tactics instructors advise against pocket holsters(and the paddle type models) because you could pull the entire rig out or have a mishap during a critical incident.
I use pocket type concealment for 2nd guns, BUGs or for short time periods.

I'll second the suggestion of others that you press forward or against your thigh as you draw ... in my case, I let my thumb press against the top front of my Nemesis as I draw and the gun comes out slick and clean ... a little practice goes a long way ...

That is a curious problem. I have never noticed it with my Superfly in my largest pant pocket, or even in a jacket pocket. Are you possibly gripping part od the holster with your finger as you draw?

The Superfly is the same as the Nemeses, It just has an removable full cover flap attached with Velcro along the edge. For back pocket cary it makes it appear as a wallet.

Thanks for the tips. I will try pushing against the leg before the draw. I know the superfly's flap is meant for back pocket carry, but I don't get that idea. Seems to me that back pocket carry is about the least secure way to carry a firearm. I grew up in NYC and only tourists carry wallets in their back pocket. Wouldn't want a pick pocket to try for what he thought was a wallet and come away with my firearm.

I have a Nemesis for a Glock 26, and one problem with it is that the holster covers the place on the grip where your third finger should go, preventing the proper combat grip that a holster should allow. People compensate for that in two ways: Some cut the holster down a little in that area. Others practice a draw that uses their ring finger and lets the middle finger relax until the grip clears the holster a bit. You might be trying to get a grip with that middle finger too early and inadvertently holding the holster against the gun when you draw.

I have found that if I draw the first inch or so with the ring finger, while pressing the muzzle end backwards into the pocket lining just a little, I can draw smoothly from the Nemesis and have a proper grip by the time I start to rotate forward. But it is an odd little holster that takes some practice.

DeSantis Superfly vs Nemnesis holsters...

Hate to disagree but...

Catalog articles and DeSantis pics show the Superflys as having a "improved" design. There is a slight difference in holsters.

I still say the DeSantis Nemnesis has a slight edge, but the flap style Superfly could work better for a few handgun styles.
