I found a wonderful article in our usually liberal local morning paper.
The article was written by Deroy Murdock and titled
" To protect minorities, we must arm them"
In this opinion article, he expresses his dislike of the so called "hate crime". He also believes the recent murders of Matthew Shepard, James Byrd, and Rankel Rosenbaum could have been prevented if the victims had been armed.
Deroy Murdock, a columnist with Scripps-Howard News Service, is African American.
The article goes on to quote some statistics, and mentions a couple of times minorities used firearms to protect themselves and Murdock seems to be a proponent of concealed carry.
As for the "hate crime" topic, I thought a passage was especially telling. I'll try to type it correctly.
"First, "hate crime" is a truism. What exactly is a love crime?
Second, suppose a racist spots a mixed couple and yells a racial epithet before severely assaulting a black husband, and his white wife. Imagine further that the accused is convicted and recieves 20 years in jail for his attempted murder of a man of color while only getting 15 years for nearly slaying his bride. Now, pretend you're the trial judge.
Try to tell the woman's enraged relatives why she was nearly killed at a discount."
I wish I could find the article as it was written, but it was not used in the net version of that particular paper, and the Scripps-Howard site has not updated. If anyone has access to this article, can you please post it? I was so surprised and pleased to read it.
