The Denver Police say that law-abiding people should not be allowed to carry guns, because then every road rage incident will turn into a likely shooting.

Others on this board have pointed out that most rank and file cops support the RKBA, but that it is the chiefs and sheriffs who, as political animals, sabotage their efforts.

I don't think that is the case in Denver. Here I think most cops like being the only ones who are allowed to be armed, because they feel more free to pull this kind of pseudo-macho crap.

Let me again point out that I do not hate all cops, just quite a few of the ones who work in my city.

I'll try to keep you all posted as to the outcome of this latest incident. My guess is that nothing will come of it, that these guys will continue to be allowed to carry guns and exercise legal authority over others.

Makes you wonder what would have happened if one of the other guys had performed a first class speed draw and shot McGinley in the forehead.

I know folks who did go and join their local law enforcement agency in an effort to solve their self esteem problem, real or imagined. Kind of sad that some folks make up for being bullied in 2nd grade and ignored in high school by putting on a uniform and a gun and assuming an air of superiority over everbody else. Is that why some LE folks hate being called civilians? Because it denotes an equality between themselves and everybody else?

Too bad that the majority of local law enforcement officers who took the job because they wanted to serve their community get a black eye because of a few yutzes.

???

So how the heck did this go down?

The four got out of their vehicles, exchanged words, then got back in and both traveled to East 109th Court, Barnes said. There, the four fought. No one was hurt, Barnes said.

"Dude, see this badge? Do you realizing you were just tailgating a cop? I don't want to be an a-hole here so, smarten up and get out of my face!"

"Screw you copper! You're gonna get it!"

or

"What are you tailgating me for?"

"I'm a cop, i can do anything i want."

we shouldn't jump to conclusions due to the painful lack of info

What I don't understand... they got back into their cars and drove to another place to duke it out? OK... Don't care who you are... the first rule of personal safety is, you don't pull over in the first place... Then to get back in the car to drive to a spot where you can duke it out???? Come on.... A couple of kids not knowing better, well they should get a good talking to by the judge. The two LEO should be repremanded and sent back for proper training, as it is evident that they are lacking. Sorry to see stories like this. Our LEO's have enough to worry about without having to defend themselves from yahoo's like this.

Perhaps he pulled the gun to emphasize that the fight was over....

Who knows? There just isn't enough info to go on.

Although, the fact that they were suspended does suggest they did a booboo.

booboo my @ss

Any individual who goes knowingly into a "brouhaha" with a gun on them is not responsible enough to be working as a cop and/or carrying a gun. That may change with time or training, but the simple fact that the fight took place elsewhere tells me they should be done enforcing laws for quite a while. Just my opinion.

I don't normally comment on stories like this, but a friend of mine in another state was crucified by the legal system because he got into a fist fight with another man while he was carrying. According to John, there was no warning from the guy who hit him, and the first blow hit him on the back of the head. John did exchange blows, but as the guy was about his size, he never pulled the gun he was carrying. Only when the police showed up did he inform them that he had a CCW and was armed. He was immeadiately handcuffed (the other guy was not), and his troubles began. Although he was never officially charged with anything, it did make the news that "the fight did invole a dangerous weapon". The police and the District Attorney also lectured him at length, and although I am not sure I also believe that he lost his permit to carry.

Why should our level of expectation be so much lower for two officers? These guys not only got involved, they drove to another location before getting into a fist fight? I don't care what the circumstances were, if civillians can be held to higher standards, then these two cops should be fired.

I realize that there are many fine officers of the law, who do a great job and get little recognition for it. One of my ex-wifes relatives is one here in Ohio. I have also personnaly experienced the other side; those who have authority and love to use it like a baseball bat to get their way.

Sorry, I'll turn the rant mode off now.

It's my understanding that the two 21 year-olds drove to where they did and got out of their vehicle (the second time) because one of them lived there. Apparently they were followed there by the deputies after the static on I-25. FWIW. Don't quote me on this...I was only loosely paying attention when the report ran on the evening news.

It's always been my understanding that you pull the badge to show it's over . You pull the gun without a definite need and it's assault . Plain and simple . I might be wrong but hey , when has that ever happened ?

I don't CARE why the did it. One of my dad's old friends assaulted a guy in traffic a few months ago. I haven't posted so far because I wasn't sure how I felt about it...it's not all sorted out yet, but his FOID card has been suspended so he can't even handle firearms.

These guys get to remain cops after engaging in some macho fistfight over a traffic argument, while he loses the RKBA for grabbing someone who spit on his windshield (but not striking him.) Can anybody justify that?

I'm not making excuses for Dick. He really doesn't know when to stop. He refuses to hire a lawyer and regales the judge with his political theories, most of which involve Clinton/Jackson conspiracies for the next election. And the other day, I had to shove him back into his truck when I discovered him, much to my surprise, about to have a fistfight over a parking space in front of a store. He brings his problems on himself and they are his responsibility. But why does a cop get a free pass to do the same thing without the consequences?
