dented shotgun bbl

I saw an add for a nice Savage 311 the other day, full & full, walnut stocks, for a decent price. One bbl had a dent. The gun was online, I cannot examine it, I can't say how bad the dent is, but it raises the question in my mind.

How big a deal is this? Seems like I have seen special tools in Brownell's? And there's the regulation issue in a double. But, as a general rule, how much of a "fix" is required to get a dent out, and do the guns, as a rule, perform satisfactorily after raising the dent?

I will not try to buy this gun, but I am curious about the repair.

Dents in barrels can be raised with a dent raising tool. I have seen shotguns that had dents raised and they looked fine. Even before the dent was raised, they were shot with the dent. Regulation should not be an issue, especially with a Savage 311.

Dents are raised with dent raiser either or hydralic or mechanical .
I use a mechinical rasier and hammer and dolly( steel bore manderal) to shrink. This
works for sheet metal as well as bore of 12ga.
Never had a issue with a repair lik this before

Well hope you got a good price as it is probably easily fixed to look perfect by a good smith but you have to add the costs of getting it done in to the mix. You sure want to have it done right. That costs but maybe not that much if the guy has the gear to do it. And he is not trying to pay for the cost of it with your job.

I realize this is a hypothetical question, but if it were my gun I would just hunt with it and not bother to remove the dent. If the dent isn't deep, it wouldn't cause any problems; if it is, trying to raise it could cause problems.

If the gun were expensive and a sale was pending, I might feel differently, but on an inexpensive gun like the 311, I would ignore the dent.
