Dems took Senate? better prepare for AWB 2.0

Bush won't sign it. He will find a reason not to. He stalled the old one out, and he will do the same again. Do a search of this forum from 2004. All the tinfoil hatters were saying that Bush would push it through, or that he was waiting until after the election, etc. Bush's signature on an AWB would cause an exodus of gun owners from the Republicans.

Frankly, Bush won't get to sign it because it won't get to him anyway.

if I dont see a Federal AWB it may not matter I may see a state AWB.

Iowa may go backwards on CCW law. wouldnt be suprised if Illinois got AWB.

Probably in the works, or at least the general populace gave notice to the gov't ....

Countywide Advisory Referendum 1 passed in Cook County, Ill. by an over 80% vote, according to the Chicago Tribune. The language doesn't cover only Cook County, but the State of Ill-i-noise.

"For the health and safety of children and the entire community, shall the State of Illinois enact a comprehensive ban on the manufacture, sale, delivery and possession of military-style assault weapons and .50 caliber rifles?"

Nice touch, Brady Bunch, of the "protecting the children". Take away the protective implements of the law abiding parents (semiautomatic handguns, semiauto rifles, etc.), and the criminals will have a field day. Good luck keeping your family safe.

Let's see. Military-style assault weapons. That should entail anything that a soldier straps on for his duty patrol. 1911, M16 (our civie AR-15), Beretta, Browning, etc. Where does it begin, and where does it end?

There should be a provision in the language that states:

"Upon passage of any gun-restrictive law upon the citizens of the State of Illinois, any publicly paid law enforcement officer, bodyguard or armed "defender" of all public servants shall be pulled from such duty. The public servants shall be required to walk the streets of the State, unarmed and unprotected, as the 'common citizens' are required to do."

If you don't believe there will be a wave of this type of ban(s) coming, you're mistaken.

I have perpared for AWB 2.0, today i traded my USP9mm for a yugo underfolder AK. i wasnt really ready to do it, but Pelosi, is coming for your guns, get them now, before its too late. i am not kidding, the cleak said that next month, the same Yugo underfolder will be selling for $579.99, instead of $519, so in my area, the prices are starting to go up. America is a totally different place now, then it was three days ago, i didnt think the dems would get the senate too. thinks are happening, and you would be unwise to sit back and not do something (like buy more stuff).

p.s. i am not a gun dealer, just a guy who grow during the 1st AWB, and still remembers the horror.

The clerk is an idiot, and you are very gullible if you bought his BS. We are all terrrified of what may come to bare with the new congress, but there won't be any type of ban signed into law for at least the better part of a year-even if they start working on it immediately. This stuff doesn't happen over night, and they don't even assume control for 2 more months.

FWIW, you are already overpaying a great deal.

Any dealer who starts marking semi-auto's up isn't going to do much business.

The situatoin is critical, but it isn't that critical.

FWIW, I imagine .50 cal's will be the first to go. Probably will be a rider on another bill and go nearly unnoticed. Out of ~80 million gun owners, only about 1 million will even give a $h*t.

You're putting a lot of faith in a guy who has stood up for exactly none of the constitution. In six years, he has vetoed ONE bill. The only reason the AWB didn't get renewed is because it never got to his desk. He'd have signed it if it went through.

Yawn. That is what was said back in 2004. Do a search of what was being said before the ban died.

If he would have wanted it on his desk, it would have been there. You see, back then the Republicans controlled Congress, and they killed the Assault Weapons bill by letting it die--in and election year no less. The Democrats slammed him endlessly for not supporting the assault weapons bill when he said he would. I remember all the libertarians saying the Republicans would sell the RKBA crowd out and re-up the AWB, etc. Did not happen.

I am calling BS on this one. A county can not have on its ballot a referendum that effects the entire state. If it is passed, it is invalid except in that county, and the language that makes it state wide would make it easy to over turn in the county.

I think the battle over the RKBA has shifted to the states. Remember there are 7 states-New Jersey, New York, Illinois and California are the ones that I
first think of-that do not have the RKBA in their state constitutions, and there are states such as Massachusetts and Connecticutt that do have it
but it has been gutted. And now that they have captured more state houses
the Democrats are discovering states' rights and localism. I think crime and law and order have faded
as hot button issues, though in so many areas crime has gone down because of CCW.

with a president that said he would sign it if it hit his desk

Bush said he would sign it because Tom Delay (remember him?) assured him it would never make it to his desk. Bush could say he'd sign it, knowing it would placate some soccer Mom driving around in her mini-van.
A number of these "new" Democrats are pretty conservative - and are very conservative when compared to the Schumer/Feinstein/Clinton/Kerry/etc. crowd. They aren't going to jump on the anti-gun bandwagon.
I don't see an AWB coming before '09. Assuming Democrats are in control after the '08 elections all bets are off and anything can happen.

iowa has no rkba in the constitution either.

thought Illinois and California did but could be mistaken. states dont have very strong rkba 2a like amendments if any.
