After reading clinton's interview in Rolling Stone http://www.usnewswire.com/topnews/Current_Releases/1207-118.html
and from reading and watching in general, I think the democrats and their media friends are getting ready to launch an offensive to try to separate Republican elected officials from the NRA and gun owners from the NRA.
In congress, even though the democrats picked up a number of seats, they lost just as many in gun friendly districts. For the Presidency, gore lost states like West Virginia, Tennessee and Arkansas, in large part due to the gun issue.
The NRA/GOA with our support is hurting them in a big way and they know it. As a result, I think that you will see an attempt to try to demonize the gun lobby, not just with ordinary people, but with Republican politicians and with gun owners themselves. Sort of like the way they trashed women who got in their way.
Quite frankly, I don't think it will work because I don't think they understand how we think and feel. They don't look at things from our point of view. However, look for them to try to separate hunters and target shooters from other gun owners (though, isn't everyone at least a target shooter?) and to try to convince Republican politicians that supporting gun rights is a losing issue - especially in states where Republicans have been in retreat, like California.
I think that we will need to concentrate on solidarity and minimize our usual infighting more than ever to counter this coming offensive.
