Wow my Sturm Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle made it as #2 on the proposal. How excited am I  Suprised to not see more of a ban on semi-auto handguns, especially magazine capacity.

You'd like to believe the Dems, President, and new AG will be too busy trying to get the economy going, working on their health care agenda, Afgahnistan, etc. to get all worked up about gun control. But, I'm sure Soros and the Brady Bunch will continue to press for this sort of regulations.

Too bad they're not smart enough to know criminals don't pay any attention to such laws even if they are enacted.

Scarey stuff indeed.

Somebody just noticed the bill that Carolyn McCarthy introduced on February 7, 2007 in the last session of Congress.

THIS is a new bill that should be watched: H.R. 45 - Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009.

I don't think the Buckeye firearms Assoc. just noticed a bill first introduced in 2007. I think they are concerned that under the new administration it will gain new life.
HR 45 sounds horrible as well.

A semiautomatic rifle that accepts a detachable magazine and has (i) a folding or telescoping stock, (ii) a threaded barrel, (iii) a pistol grip (which includes ANYTHING that can serve as a grip, see below), (iv) a forward grip; or a barrel shroud.

Doesn't this include a big number of rifles, including things like the hi-point carbines? (forward grip on those.)

Good grief...

do think congress would let this pass? honestly I feel that the bill passing would worsen his political career. millions of people own guns. thats millions of votes. I am very proud of my rights "exp 2nd ". But i would like to find more on this topic, like maybe you-tube vid of obama saying he is planning a gun ban. the things senators voted on in the past might not mean they vote on it when there political career falls in the ballance of millions of gun owners and lovers of the constitution. I would like more actual hard facts. actually from the lips of obama. this would help my in understanding this.

Passing gun control is political suicide for many members of the current congressional majority.

Gun rights supporters vote the issue while people who support gun control really don't.

So even though some people may support more gun control a politician who votes for gun control is likely to lose more votes than they gain. While supporting gun rights isn't likely to cost someone the votes of gun control supporters.

thats whay im thinking exactly vransauras.
i dont wanna start a flame thread with this next part....
I buy alot of fire arms, go to gun shows, im hooked on buying guns. ammo, and such. it seems that it would be political suicide on the part of the government, and lately the people making out "with money" are the gun shops , mfgs and ammo supplyers. i want to invest in guns and ammo...gov makes taxes on gun sales, and the workers and biz that make them, thats alot of jobs in the firearms biz...now is not the time to loose jobs in america.
i want more info before i make my decision of what side of the fence im on....im not sending money that i can spend on guns to any organization that im not 100% sure will have somthign to do... just my opinion, i could be way wrong. but whatever..just my 2 cents, i need more info.

Dear Folks:

I'm going to close this as a cut and paste link without much more by the OP. It also engenders minor bickering as old news. If one wants to suggest a reasonable strategy to preserve access to such firearms, feel free.

Ken, what we can also do is to keep track of these new bills,

Like the new HR 45. Currently, it has no sponsors. Should it pick up momentum, then we need to actively fight it.

But we can't do that, if it's not reported. This is the forum to do that.

Perhaps we need to make a sticky thread that contains the new bills, as they come up, so that everyone is aware and can keep tabs on them?

ETA: Opps! I see Glenn closed this while I was composing and answering another PM at the same time!
