Democrats call for gun laws

Republicans call for flag burning amendments and gay marriage bans

Question for you Glenn----what % of the population do you suppose wants the same thing------70/80/90%?:p

Since these are my choices, I'll side with the Repubs.

Of course gun control is not the only issue on the docket – however it is a defining issue.

This forum is loaded with links to articles, stats, clocks, books, etc. just filled with the truth about legally owned firearms. WE know the real statistics. WE know the correlation between the areas with the strictest gun control laws and areas with high crime rates like NYC, DC, and Chicago. WE know of the rising crime rates in Australia and England since they passed strict gun laws. So why do the Democrats persist in trying to ban them? Are they that naïve and ill-informed? THEY too have access to the internet, access to same the facts, the same truths. And it is their JOB to know the truth – since they are voting on this issue. They KNOW the false figures that play on the emotions when it comes to guns are made up - after all THEY came up with those lies. And yet they persist.

This forum is also filled with links to potential gun laws – ones that want to serialize ammo or have identifying marks imprinted on fired brass – "to help solve crimes". Plenty of history of those that want to ban semi-autos and hi-cap mags and 'assault weapons" - "to fight crime". Are the democrats who invent such bills really that dumb? Or are they actually lying and just want to make owning or manufacturing a firearm too expensive, or just trying to outlaw one model after the other as soon as they can get away with it? They KNOW the myths. They KNOW their prophecies of blood in the streets in places like Florida that protect your right of self defense is total BS. They KNOW the facts. Or atleast they should, and yet they mislead and lie. They COUNT on the liberal media and the liberal rags like the NY Times to wax poetic about the dangers and evils of "shall issue", and "no retreat"...without even ONE piece of REAL evidence to support their distorted opinions - it is ALL unfounded BS.

And yet they persist. They INSIST on treating “we the people” as lesser animals. They INSIST that normal citizens - us - do not have the need, the intelligence, the level of responsibility, or the RIGHT to bear arms, esp. for self defense. They will bend or break a constitutional ammendment to accomplish their goals - of a public totally disarmed. Why? This is not some grey area like whether the Pres' authorizing the NSA to key into certain words on your overseas cell-phone calls is a violation of some obscure law...this one is right there in plain english..." the right to bear arms shall not be infringed". Yet they persist.

They are dangerously incompetent, severely stupid, blatantly lying, and/or just so damn condesending that they see us the people, the legal owners of guns, as a threat. Not just a threat – but MORE of a threat to cops and kids and little old ladies then murderers, rapists, drug dealers etc., who they KNOW DO commit crimes of violence with illgeally obtained weapons. Atleast with the criminals they TRY to understand "why", yet they care little about you and I. These so-called leaders - these democrats - place us, those who just want to enjoy our right to defend ourselves and our loved ones - lower then the lowest scum out on the street

I take it personally, it is insulting and degrading. I spit on them and their liberal leftists views, and their deranged opinions of what/why they think THEY should control us. They do not earn my respect, they certainly don't deserve my vote.

What will happen when Pelosi is the speaker of the house, Dean the head of the party in power, and the likes of Michael Moore hold a place honored beyond common sense? When (God forbid) a Clinton is again the president? When the likes of liberal elitists like Kennedy and Kerry can sway a vote against our rights? Do you remember the 8 yrs under the Clinton lies? The false campaigns against all guns? The AWB? If/when they control the two branches of gov't kiss your semis, your mags, your "assault weapons", and your handguns goodbye. It wil happen. They will roll back and surpass all that we have won the last 6 years.

With their position on this one issue, they show what they really think of "we, the people". It is disgusting.

Well surpriiiise, surpriiise!

Requiregun owners to report lost or stolen firearms within 24 hours of having discovered them. Unintentional first offense is punishable by $500 fine. (House Bill 1013.)
Democrats are naive fools.

MoW - basic rights are not determined by the momentary outrage of the populace. After a Columbine, the majority would vote for gun control. Oops - sorry not to be socially conservative PC. During desegregation, majorities in many states were in favor of discrimination.

My point is that what else is new? Both parties use attempts to ban basic liberties to charge up the authoritarian fringes of their base. Both parties have crap they want to ban. Unfortunately, both set of extreme fringes fail to understand basic liberties as long as they can nail the folks who annoy them.

If the Dems get in and pass antigun legislation - where does the fault lie?

1. The internet commando for the RKBA can blame them. Blame the bear for pooping in the woods. That's what the Dem leadership is about on guns.

2. The fault lies in the GOP and Bush administration. Their incompetence in the WOT has led to the possibility of Dem control of the Congress as many folks thing their mishandling of that is more important than the one issue gun voter. Also, the wild spending of the socalled conservative Bush and GOP may lead to conservatives staying home.

Last, during the period of GOP control I didn't see a bunch of proactive pro-gun bills to provide a legislative buffer against new gun laws. Bush said he would sign AWB II (mister brilliant strategist or liar about the RKBA - choose your interpretation).

Look Bush in the eye - his performance let a known antigun faction get power - if that is actually what happens.

Sorry to interject reality into the usual ideological purity of the gun world.

Sorry Glenn, but gay marriage is not a "basic right". We our a nation that votes for what we want and our elected officials are supposed to represent us--doesn't always happen. Guns, for or against is more of an even proposition of for or against. Gay marriage has been shot down in every state so far, guns are banned in some and not in others. The 2nd amendment would fall under a Constitutional right where Gay marriage doesn't.

Ok, so what good would a restriction of one handgun a month really accomplish? The gang bangers (read thugs) already have their weapons or will get them one way or another. I understand that most of the gun violence is restricted to a relatively small precentage of the population. One HG a month does not good. Why penalize law abiding people with restrictions?

Handgun sales for the most part all have to go through a FFL now with minor exceptions I believe for direct family members.

The only thing it would accomplish is that the requirement would serve to make it easier for further restrictions on legal sales when they see no effect on crime rates. More is always better, it is the American way... In the mean time, the law abiding firearm owner pays a price in limiting their freedoms because of criminals. We should be fighting the bad guys not the good guys.

Even more forboding is the total outlawing of "assault rifles" in Pennsylvania. These rifles are not even routinely used in crimes. So, why the restriction on ownership?

All part of the liberal Democratic plan... they can't get national legislation passed, so they are trying to get local restrictive legislation passed. They are using other people's misery to inflict a reduction in freedoms again on everyone who owns or wants to own a so called black rifle. Again, the law would have little practical effect on crime.

Democrats are naive fools.

Couldn't one simply say that it was sold at the last gunshow in a face-to-face transaction without any paperwork?

I'm tell ya'll, a pro-gun Democrat would clean house...too bad one would probably never get anywhere.

Handgun transfers in PA for the most part must go through a FFL dealer. Hence, the NICs check is done on the buyer. Gun show sales follow the same laws and requirements. I believe only direct family are excluded... brother to brother, father to son, etc. Maybe some one from PA can clear that detail up.

The problem with pro-gun national Democratic candidates is that they get pressured into voting the party line or they get no support for other legislation or campaign funds from the DNC. Same sort of thing happens with Republicans, the difference is that the powerbase does not support strict gun control measures as they have little to no effect on crime. Punishment is the best approach.
