HIGHTSTOWN - After a month of fasting, Muslims yesterday marked the end of Ramadan, a centuries-old-religious tradition that was begun by the prophet Muhammad in 624 A.D.

About 500 assembled at Hightstown High School for congregational prayers, a traditional feast and a message to be disciplined Muslims throughout the year, not just during Ramadan.

Following the sermon, Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein, D-Plainsboro, wished the congregation success, happiness and world peace.

What's the problem here?

The Muslims that gathered at this school did so without any official school sponsorship. This is exactly what the Assemblies of God Church I used to attend would do every Sunday for over a decade at a public elementary school auditorium.

Public schools are public facilities that are available for use by religious organizations during off hours.

From the article it appears that this is the case here.

This is not a case of discrimination against Christianity in favor of Islam. Presumably a Christian Church could use the facilities for a Christmas play, or worship services.
