demise of the m66??

I've read some posts on gun forums mentioning that s&w will be discontinuing the model 66. Does anyone know why? Is a 66 replacement on the horizon? Are any dates known?

Apparently, since the "K" frame and the "L" frame are very close in size, and the "L" frame will stand up to unlimited Magnum ammo, S&W has decided to discontinue the "K" frame, and offer "K" frame-LIKE guns with the slightly beefier "L" frame.

I'm not sure what S&W will, or is going to do about the larger diameter "L" frame cylinder.

Possibly offer the new guns with a smaller diameter cylinder?

In any event, this is another step in S&W's move to simplify production, and hold prices down.

I have a possibly dumb question. Are they discontinuing ALL K-frames or just the 357's K-frames?

I think it is a rumor. I just saw a brand new M66 at my local range.

That is why I said a rumor. These rumors exist in order to increase sales. It may be true, but I got my M66.
