Demand pushes prices higher.....

...as a part-time FFL dealer [haven't quit my "day" job as yet!], I acquire a
number of guns for resale from time to time on the several prominent gun-
auction sites.....Over the past 18 months or so, I've noticed a definite pattern
emerging on these sites: QUALITY GUNS ARE BRINGING HIGHER PRICES!

I particularly "specialize" in 'better' name-brand shotguns and have noted that
the going prices for nice SxS or O/U shotguns -- especially Browning and
Winchester 101's and Berettas -- has risen by at least 25-35% on average
over this time period.....demand is strong, bidding -- at times -- hot and heavy,
and the prices realized absolutely rocketing higher, it seems. . .Guns that I
was easily able to buy for, say $800-$900 a year ago, are now consistently
fetching $1100-$1200 and more in these auctions. Either the buyers have
come into some "sudden money" or have realized that one just can't 'steal'
a quality, name-brand shotgun for a cheap price any more!

Just an observation....maybe you've had different experiences or have been
able to find quality guns elsewhere at more-reasonable prices ? Good on ya,
mate, if you have! From what I've been seeing, the "good stuff" is drying up
and steadily moving higher from here if this pattern continues.

Brownings have been undervalued for many years, particularly Belgian Brownings.

In a way this is good news if you own a nice double or two. Value of the guns increases the longer you own them.

Unfortunately some old guns, Parkers and Winchester model 12's for example, are IMHO too high due to their cult followings. I have seen these guns in poor condition with hefty price tags.

Colt handguns are another case in point. When you can find them they command premium prices. At least in my corner of PA.
