DELAYED!? Me?

I went to my FFL today. My intent was to pick up my M15 S&W 38 Special. I fill out the yellow sheet and browse. The clerk come to find me and tells me I was delayed. What are the criteria for delaying a purchase? Seems arbitrary to me.

we live our lives

often at the whim of some flunky who only does what the computer screen tells them. Sad state of affairs.
Personally I think it's karma, you obviously should sent the gun to me. :D

when I called in a NICS check I found that if the person put their SSN ( it is optional) that I very seldom got a delay. there could be several people out there with the same name(and possibly with a record of some kind) and it can take a while to sort through all of the names

I always provide SS# and ID# as alternatives. I was a little piqued as my FFL is a distance drive. I would have felt better if I knew the reason. I apparently am delayed until 16 April. Odd.

It is called a "three day hold" and it might happen again when you go back. I was delayed like this twice on my pawned shotgun 'til I finally just waited for them to call me back. That was last July. I got my C&R FFL so I thought it was OK now. went back about a month and a half ago and...........three day hold. Week later I go back.........denied. Since I know I have not broken the law between the time I got my 03 FFL (and before) and last month, I know I will get that damn shotgun back someday.

Arbitrary. You own the shotgun but, you pawned your owned by you shotgun and now they won't approve transferring your own property back to you. Quite sensible, NOT!

I remember being delayed everytime I bought a gun when the system was first implemented. I called and asked why - was told it was likely because my fingerprints were on file and it raised a flag that someone had to check personallly... Fingerprints were on file becasue I was an LEO.

Haven't had such problems in years though - since I got my CCW. Sometimes I guess it does work.

The fingerprint thing is weird. I have more sets of fingerprints on file (Air Force for security clearance, Georgia DL (thumb only), GA CHL, ID CHL, OR CHL, background for job and to top it all off, they have my DNA on file also (Air Force).

I get almost instant "approved". The only time that it took more then 1 min was when the NICS station person had two other gun shops on hold while he/she was checking for them.

Strange, seems like a glitch in the system... either that or you're on the no fly list now  .

It's not unusual for you to get an early approval

They tell you three days so that they have three days to check you out. They get it done whenever, usually the same day if you fill out the form in the morning. When the dealer calls in any other checks, they will inform him of any delays that have been approved if they are doing their job properly. Happened to me a few times. I have also had the dealer call for a status update the same day I was delayed and had them say it was okay. Gotta love the bureaucracy.
