Delaware--One step closer to shall issue

Holy crap, they must be having a snowball fight in hell.

I never thought I'd see DE become a shall issue state. And Minner hasn't even flatly rejected it yet either. To top it all off, even that rag the News Journal, came out in support of it.

Sorry Shaggy, I called Hell over my lunch break to see if what you say might be true, but I only got this recording:

"You have reached the corporate offices of Hell. We have not frozen over, but are assisting other customers at this time. Your call will be answered in the order received. If this is a truly hellish emergency, please press 0 to reach the operator. Thank you."

I didn't stay on the phone. :D

I think that people frequently misunderstand Delaware and its politics (not that I am by any means the all-knowing purveyor of knowledge about the topic). Although it is located in the Mid-Atlantic, it is not nearly as 'blue' as many of its neighbors, i.e. Maryland and New Jersey. The southern two-thirds of the state are fairly conservative (with exceptions), but the majority of the state's population lives in the topmost third and tends to vote otherwise. Gun laws actually are lenient by comparison with the aforesaid neighbors, with the only substantial restrictions (as I understand them) being the carry issue, the inability to own any NFA weapons, and the inability to use any sort of rifle for hunting (we're just not big enough). No purchase limits, no waiting periods, no state assault weapon bans, etc.

It will be curious to see how this plays out and where in the state support is strongest.

I used to know DE pretty well - lived there for a while, went to high school & college there, worked there for a few years, and had my FFL there. All this was in and around Wilmington/northern Delaware - didn't do much in 'slower lower' other than go to the beach and the occasional business in Dover. Still, I'm blown away that a shall issue bill could get as far as this apparently has. Its still a fairly liberal state IMHO. Kent & Sussex may tilt a little more to the right, but the majority of the population is in NCC and they vote liberal (Carper, Minner, and Biden? Mike Castle may be a republican, but he's a RINO. I don't remember too much of Bill Roth's record, but as I recall he was a moderate republican). Whats most astounding to me, however, is that the Snooze Journal came out in favor of the shall issue bill.

I was listening to a local talk radio show on 1150 AM.

The host's attitude was fairly libertarian. "Why are those guy's reasons for getting a permit more valid than mine?? If you pass a background check and qualify everybody should be entitled to one." Not a direct quote, but in the general spirit of his remarks. Most of the callers seemed to have that opinion as well.

I'm fairly excited about this legislation. Guess I'll have to start shopping for a carry gun now...

Finally I'll no longer be at the mercy of the Prothonotary's personal whims and fancies when it comes to getting my permit.

How do I go about contactiong my state senators and reps to inform them of my support for this bill? Also, when is it going up for a vote?
